Default New Battery for Me!!!

Due to get a new pacemaker battery in mid-May.

the leads stay put, just the control/battery unit gets swapped. all pacemakers have a standard set of plugs for the wires, so you can change units without having to change the wires too.

should be an outpatient deal, arrive there first thing in the morning, get sent home that afternoon if all goes well.

it's an elective but needed surgery, can only put off so long until the existing battery runs out of power. so this will be about 7-1/2 years on this unit.

more later as I know more. i know i'll need some blood work as i get closer to the date. don't like giving my blood. yeah, i've done that.

Surprised they don't have a coil of wire, lay down next to a a/c driven iron core, and recharge the battery>>>>DUN.......

Get rid of that expensive hi-tech, hifalutin crap. Get you something basic & reliable to hang on your belt, & change it yourself as needed.

Hope the new system works well for you.
I remember after my by-pass, they left two little wires hanging out below my sternum in case I needed a hot shot.

So, you plug in a 9-volt and you're good to go?

Why something that new? This Edison battery is about 115 years old and still works great

With all this sitting at home non-socializing going on,
I'm becoming the idea guy.

Previous employment with with a cardiograph manufacturer
got me to thinking "hmmmm, why not take a normal set of glasses,
install solar panel lenses, and run some wires down to the chest
area. Constant charging with any bright light sourcing.

Today's wafer technology in recharging circuits for Lion batteries
is so small, it easily fits into 1 SSOIC/SSOT 6 pin package and a few
smaller discrete devices, an area smaller than your pinky fingernail,
perhaps .25" square by .015".
Now that I let the idea fly, Medtronic's probably starts a new business unit
next week.
Damn!
Remember, you read it here first.

Anyway, good luck with the procedure, and best wishes for an
uneventful routine.

check in is this Thursday at 8am local time. no food, no water, no coffee...that morning is going to suck.

preliminary blood work all done, paid my estimated end of things up front, just need to show up and do what i'm told. "take off your clothes"... that's a great line from your wife, not so great from some random nurse. but I know they'll take great care of me.
