cellphone question for you apple folks

I rely on my android for internet connection as I live way out. Our local tower is not too damn good either.

I can connect to my wifes Iphone with much better speed than I can with my Galaxy.

so, I am considering buying a refurbished Iphone. I really don't need all the new bells and whistles out there.

A reasonable camera and strong signal is what is important to me.

I have choices an 8plus or a 7 (I suppose a 7plus if they made them).

Is there much difference in the 7 and 8?

Any suggestions on buying refurbished or renewed (amazon) iphones.



Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest that you get the newest refurb you can. So that would be an 8+. It has a faster processor than the 7. The cameras on iPhones are good up and down the line.

I have an 8 plus with att. No complaints with the phone. It took me a little while to get used to it. J has an 8. He didn’t think the 8+ would fit in his pocket. They were new. Sons have gotten refurbished 8 and 8+ under insurance claims with no problems.

The word on the street is the 8 plus is the sweet spot on the performance vs affordability curve.

I would save at least a Hundred by getting the 7 but I suppose it is worth it to get the 8plus.

Give it up on the 7, 8, etc. For $400 nothing will come close to the new iPhone SE. It is the same size as the older iPhones (which suits me more than fine fine), yet has the processor of the iPhone 11, upgraded camera and plenty of other good stuff. And, it will be supported for at least 5 years which the 7’s and 8’s are to be phased out of ongoing Apple support.

First off, who is your current provider? Check to see if another provider has better service in your area. AT&T and Verizon have crappy service at our house, but T-Mobile has great service. Research that first.

Then, if you determine that you need to switch providers, check with them to see which low cost phones they have available.

We have androids and our friends in Conn. have Iphones.....both have verizon and their phones suck in their home while ours work perfectly ....go figure

I have android with AT&T that I use for work, but I had to purchase a AT&T Micro Cell due to the poor reception in the house. The micro cell connects to your router, and then it connects to a satellite to get your signal. I place the micro cell next to a window to pick up the satellite signal. Works quite well. I never had an issue getting calls, attending meetings, even dialing to Ireland to speak with a fellow college.

My 8+ was 549.99 new last November. The only reason I got it was because my 5 died and it was cheaper than an 11. J’s 8 was 449.99 last Dec because his se died. We only get phones when the old ones die. Our Christmas presents.

We have three apples a 6S , 8+, and 11 other than crap battery life on the 6 they all have been reasonably good phones. The 8+ did brick once but fixed at home. If I purchased Apple I would go with the 8+. I prefer Samsung and have a Note 10. Good luck.

Get the newest you can afford, im under the impression you intend to keep it 3+ years. It might not make a big difference now, but two or three years down the road, the stronger hardware will age better.

I am on Sprint and it's reputation for signal is pathetic. I live only about one mile from their damn tower and have piss poor signal and I have a WHOLE HOUSE SIGNAL BOOSTER!. My wifes apple (8=) gets a much better signal over my Samsung 8+.

I really don't like Iphones. Here is just one example why I hate them. IF you make the mistake of pressing the home key three times fast, the damn thing starts talking to you and will not shut up. After much research, I find that if you press the home key three more times (fast) it will stop. To get things like that on an android, you gotta go into settings and select a command to get it. That makes a whole lots of sense to me. I am getting an Airwave from Sprint and if it does not work (and it won't), I am ditching sprint and let my wife stay with it. I don't give a damn if it costs more.

Around Xmas '18 or so, I bought a sammy S6+ off the .net for about 80 bux...

it works well, ....no way in hell I"d spend over 150 for any phone.....
