Default 4 post lifts

Who has one? How tall is your garage ceiling? What brand did you go with?

I definitely don't have the height for a 2 post, although I'd prefer that for working on stuff. More looking at getting 2 cars in my two car garage with the lawnmower and workbench, shelves etc.

You can't get ur dad to put up a lift? I'm surprised he doesn't have one already.

The garage door will be your biggest headache, you'll need the tracks that run up real close to the ceiling as well as a side mount opener.

Surprisingly enough, no.

I've got 9'6 in the clear, raising the garage doors look as simple as buying some more track, the side mount openers aren't too expensive.

I'm very close to 9'6" myself (don't recall the exact height) the key is to measure your cars and make sure the stops coincide with where you need them. In my case we have an 06 mustang under the lift at 54" and the C6 up top at 48", total of 8'6" plus ramp thickness and raising the lift off the stop blocks.

My lift is older, ~10 years, so mine has fixed stops where as many of the new ones are adjustable. I had to make spacers for under the feet to get the mustang in as I don't have enough ceiling height to get to the next stop block.

In my case, brand is a local one as they offered delivery and installation and they are in the service business if I ever need it.

As for the garage door, I had mine converted to high lift so it now opens ~4" from the ceiling, I still use a center mount opener, no issues. I'm glad I have the high lift regardless as even things like opening the hatch on the SUV with the door open are not an issue

My C4 would definitely occupy one spot, intermittently my dad's 68 would probably occupy the other. Both short cars height wise.

This is all good news to me as my ceiling is just shy of 12 feet. I guess I am good with my corvette.

I planned it that way if I ever wanted a lift.

I had a Bend Pak 12,000 lb four post lift and loved it. Garage was 9' 9" at the peak, and lower than that at the edges. I had two corvettes in that location.

The corner pieces of the garage door tracks cost a whopping $10 extra to have them bent to my angle since I didn't want the doors to go out horizontally rather than along the ceiling. No big deal at all.

My arrangement could have handled 9' 6" ceilings easily. If I was a collector of '57 Chevys, it might not have worked.

I was worried like you that things might not fit. I bought some 3/4 pvc and fittings and built a full scale mockup of the lift with the runners at the height I planned to store the upper car. Everything looked fine so I bought the lift and all was well.

There is a guy in the Milton area that installs and maintains these things. He charged me $400 in 2005. I watched him, thinking I would install the other five lifts myself. After I saw the first one I decided I would would pay him to do the others. Lots of work for $400. Paul Fox I think was his name.

By the way they do make a little lift that turns your four post lift into a two post lift.

It runs along a set of tracks in your horizontal four post lift's ramps. Look for those when you buy your four post lift.

I never put one of these in but I did want to have that option.

And definitely do NOT skimp on cost and get one of those wimpy 7,000 - ish post lifts. There are lots of pics of failed lifts and ruined cars on the Internet.

That Bend Pak unit was built like a brick outhouse.

I suppose spending another $1,500 or so on a larger lift is worth it when you are lifting a valuable car, huh? How many damn lifts do you have?

Similar, but that one does not look like it was made to run along the little steel tracks on the inside edges of the 4 post lift's ramps.

My mechanic showed me an ad in a common large catalog of tools and accessories that mechanics usually have lying around. I don't recall the name.

I think it was around $2200 or so.

Actually I stand corrected. Those tracks on the inside edges of the ramps are called gutters. And the RJ45 is made to run along the gutters.

A friend of mine has an Atlas from Greg Smith Equipment, 8000# capacity, of late has been selling them for around $2K.

Can I plug in my telephone, or an ethernet cable, and get a signal?
