Great advice.

Doesn't surprise me. The guy flew halfway around the world several times to bring Christmas to an entire town, you know.

I have been blessed many times over, that is why my door is always open and people’s plates are always full.

We've had enough damage from fires here that everyone in the county at least knows someone who lost everything. Came close here, we've been evacuated twice.

Dixie, stay strong! Take a break every now and then. The devastation can take an emotional toll on you even if your home was not damaged.
Seeing all the damage from Nashville and hearing them say, "The damage is unimaginable!" How quickly they forget the damage caused in Alabama in 2011 by that superoutbreak. Tuscaloosa, Cullman, Phil Campbell, Russelville, and near me in Huntsville...

NOT a day I want to remember - bad storm lines still bother me like they NEVER did before that day.

Heard somebody say the other day, "Now you'll see why they call Tennessee the Volunteer State!"

Very strong folks up there rebuilding lives with the help of some amazing people! Great job, Rob! And she's right, the emotional toll of helping others when you've come thru it relatively unscathed is very true. Helped quite a bit when our company put together teams to help folks in our community and going from seeing homes just destroyed and possessions/life history everywhere then going home where all I had was a couple of downed trees (that I wanted to remove anyway) was humbling. People appreciating you being there, handing out a bottle of water or a meal, or helping them dig through the rubble of their homes... it has a way of bringing you to your knees.

We had it here in the Chattanooga/Hamilton/Bradley counties area also in April 2011. I still see the toll everyday when I drive home. Numerous homes never rebuilt with just the foundations left out there in a field. Every time I drive by those places I think of the people that were killed, the families too devastated to rebuild on the same land. I can still see the track the tornados took, cleared areas on the ridges, still no full sized trees growing up there.

Our home was missed by 2 tornados that day about a 1/4 mile away from us on each side.

Thanks to anyone giving a helping hand to those folks.

Yeah, I remember Chatty getting it too.

LOTS of tracks still on the ground here too. A neighborhood not far from our house has been hit at least 3 times since we moved here in 2004. Tornado (F4) took out a wide path through that neighborhood and can be seen from the local 'main' road. That one was less than 3 miles from our house.

Took out fences and homes that have yet to be rebuilt. Those empty parcels and destroyed fence/wall remind us EVERY day.

More than once we were huddled up in the center of the house with it shaking (had some F1's and 2's near us) and preparing to say goodbye to each other.

Very sobering. Each and every time that warning hits.

I would encourage ANYBODY who lives in tornado prone areas to check out the SAF-T-Net app for your phone. It can provide warnings of "rotating storms" approaching your home, work, current location, and 1 or 2 other places (think family members). If that app doesn't light up during storms, I generally don't worry nearly as much.

Developed by a company here in Huntsville (Baron Technologies) that does a lot of the software most meteorologists use now.

It was a "need pictures" type event as descriptions couldn't convey to actual damage.

Oh I remember the shitstorm that was the Joplin tornadoes too... not long after the 4/27/11 shitstorm here...

That was a BAD year for tornadoes.
