Fun fact: this is my Kevin.

His brother Bogie (with the hoodie) is unimpressed with Kevin’s antics. We just rescued him a few months ago. Going to be a big boy. Anatolian/Great Pyrenees from what we can guess.

No shock, spent the weekend screwing with the vette.

You know the nick name for golf “⛳️ whack fuq”????

Is there a nickname for dummies like us working on classic cars?

Feel like it’s a daily game of fuq around and find out.

Found this part (clearly cut out after powder coating). Have no idea where it goes but suspect it may have been front frame.

We are trying to add front frame extension parts/rod but holes aren’t there and other holes not lining up at all.

I do not know what the part is. Hope that helps.

Because it is not symmetrical and the car is, my guess is there should be two of them.

Is the entire frame powder coated? That would have required literally everything to be removed from the frame, did that happen? The metal on that part looks good so why would anyone have cut it out? It appears there are two threaded nuts welded on, are the threads of those powder coated too? Lots of WTF with that part whatever it is.

Yes, everything was removed and it was coated (per DUB). Looks to be powder coated, from what I can see and the bird cage looks immaculate.

From the photo I can't tell if it's painted or powder coated. Big difference between those two things. I don't know why anyone would powder coat a frame, even on a complete restoration, since the factory never did that.

For sure powder coated, it’s not paint. Hard to tell in pictures.

He put 5 coats of clear coat on. Gives
Me some comfort in the sanding I’ll be doing.

Clear coat on the frame, or the body?

Okay, that makes sense. Color sanding and buffing isn’t hard, but you can burn through the paint on edges, which is a big oops. Take your time and be careful doing that.

I admit I have not followed this closely the last few months, so I have a few comments that may or may not have been fully covered, or may be of some help.

Let's talk about carburetors: I find that the word "quadrajet" is bandied about online, with lots of descriptions that are well less than exact. In fact, if you go to Wikipedia, and type in "quadrajet carburetor", it will tell you that ONLY Rochester made quadrajet carburetors. This is not true. For US made cars of the era of your car (it gets a lot more complicated if we get into foreign cars and later carbureted cars, so let's stick to our knitting with late '60s and early '70s Corvettes), four barrel carburetors were either "square bore", meaning all four barrels had equal sized venturis, or "quadrajets", where the secondary bores were much larger than the primaries. I have a "Holley Double Pumper" on my '70, which is unquestionably a "quadrajet" carburetor. I can provide pictures if you wish, so if you want to stay quadrajet, you are not limited to Rochesters.

Technical details aside, if your car was originally a big block car with the 390 HP motor, it came originally with a Rochester carb part number 7028216 if it was automatic trans, or 7028209 for manuals. For reasons that I don't understand, the Rochester carbs have gotten a bad reputation for being difficult to set up, but in my limited experience from my youth, they are no more or less difficult to set up than comparable Holley carbs. I have more experience with Holley carbs simply because they were all the rage in the '80s and '90s when I was more into that sort of thing. If you search CF, Lars has made a ton of posts about how to set up the Rochester carbs, and if it was me, I would go there first, and come back here with any more specific questions, and I'm sure someone would be able to clarify. I certainly wouldn't try to "out-do" Lars on carb set-ups.

EFI: There was talk above of converting the car to EFI, and I have no problem with that, in fact, one of the first things I wanted to do when I bought my '70 was to get rid of the points ignition for reliability's sakes. I guess I didn't open the distributor when I inspected the car, because when I did at home, I found a "Mallory" infra-red unit already installed. For all intents and purposes, it makes the car an "electronic ignition" vehicle, using the original distributor so the tach still works exactly the same as it originally did. I had never heard of a "Mallory", but read about it online, and it gets rave reviews. It is still on my car 16 years later, and I have had zero issues with it. Something to think about if going EFI is something you're not psyched about.
