A Few New Pics II
Typically I shoot all my wildlife in RAW format. But I had used my camera for some snapshot photos and forgot to turn it back to RAW when I went out shooting again.
Can you tell which one was JPEG? And what tipped you off? |

I'm gonna guess the last one is JPEG. Seems the first 3 the background is very blurry. In the last one even the branch in the back ground is not as blurry and is sharper.

Well the second shot has more noise than I've seen in any of your other shots but I assume ISO was pretty high on that one to keep the shutter speed up. Looks like the light was pretty low when it was taken.
But the last shot has some halos on the high contrast edges but is otherwise pretty sharp. Maybe sharpening artifacts from the in camera jpg conversion? I'd guess #4. |

The shot with the two in the nest is the JPEG.

This is why I'm shooting more and more in RAW for everything. I don't care for the exaggerated colors in JPEG and I REALLY don't like the in camera sharpening. It's always far to strong. I'm going to go back and fix the shot with the noise in it. I'll post it here and you guys (and girl ) can tell me if it was worth the effort. --T |

Here's the data on the noisy shot. ISO 800 isn't all that high really. But the conditions were horrible and backgrounds like this really lend themselves to dirty photos.

Look forward to seeing the results. I just watched a tutorial on how to easily remove halos like these a few days ago but don't recall the exact technique. I think it involved using "Defringe". Out for the day and have a shoot tonight of the Dallas skyline, so hopefully something to share. Shooting from Trammell Crow park, Wendy. Will check back in tomorrow. |
