I think anyone who believes that we can determine if man is causing warming based on a 130 years of accurate temperature measures...when the planets been around for billions of years have their heads in the sand.

Let me ask... were you part of the same idiots who believe in global cooling back in the 70's?

Nuclear has been the way to go for some decades, but NO the typical hippy weenie have continued to kill it,

I am the only guy with the brains to know what to DO with nuclear power to solve several major issues in this country, but anyone in the .gov that smart?? hell NO!@!!!

and talk of major public works project employing guys like the interstate highway system did, and foster economic growth even MORE than the highways?? but NO.....

Coal is clean ENOUGH at this point, no such thing as perfection, quit fretting over it.....solar and wind is a joke,

case in point on solar, wife had a b'day present, it is a solar powered water fountain, China of course....it doesn't work, hardly at all.....if that....

why? well the ratings on the cell are 6v at 1.1 WATT, but being China I wonder at the way it's marked....I would have given a AMP rating....so one amp at 6 volts is 6 watts of power...which is the max it can make to run the pump....otherwise the pump dies which is about 90% of the time in daylight outside in the sun....clouds/angles/etc....

BUT, OK, lets assume this little panel measuring 6x7" can somehow generate 6 watts not as marked 1.1 watt.......

so we take ten of them in a row to make a 5' long panel, making 60 watts,
and take ten more those rows to make a 6' long panel....now accumulating 600 watts.....my HVAC compressor draws 13 amps at 220volts.....that's 3000 watts....

see how solar is not going to do jack squat?? much less the filth in China for making them??

and the inherent reliability problems??

Clean coal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I did read it. It says several times it has never been done.

A rational person would throw in the towel so I expect you will continue the debate.

Clean coal technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is no debate. You're just ignorant.
Which explains why you keep opening your pie hole and posting stupid crap.
You did it again. Don't you even read what you post???

The plant is operational but they haven't started disposing of the CO2 as asvertised yet.

"Plans are to inject the CO2 into depleted natural gas fields or other geological formations. This technology is considered not to be a final solution for CO2 reduction in the atmosphere, but provides an achievable solution in the near term while more desirable alternative solutions to power generation can be made economically practical."

They haven't started doing this yet so there is no way to know if it will be effective.

And there appears to be some real issues now.

Underground: Myths and realities of carbon capture and storage -- An E&E Report

The Non-Story in Carbon Capture - IEEE Spectrum

Is carbon capture & storage a dead parrot? « millicentmedia

So my statement stands. There is no such thing as "clean coal".

I guess the bold part slipped your blinded vision.

The plant is cleaning the CO2. Please show where it is not cleaning it. The only issue is pig-headed people like you who stand in the way of the solution.

Wind and solar aren't the answer you and Al Gore want people to think they are.

Link 1:
Guess you missed this part:
Vatenfall AB, which is owned by the Swedish government, has been frustrated by boisterous local opposition to its plans to pump CO2 more than a kilometer underground into porous rock formations. Unnerved by the popular uprising, politicians have stalled on passing needed regulations. And the delays have allowed the utility's competitors in the natural gas industry to buy up rare storage formations in Vattenfall's backyard.
So it's political, not technical. Hmmm... sounds like another group I know of in the US keeping progress back.

And then there's this little gem you glossed over apparently:
Early research on CO2 capture technologies -- there are three competing candidates, including the system pioneered by Vattenfall -- has gone well, posing more of an economic and engineering challenge than a scientific issue. And surveys of German geology have found sites suitable for storage.
Hmmm...sounds like good news to me. Bad news for you.

Link 2:
Only generalized assertions bad about the plant not working. Nothing to backup the claim. GMAFB.
"It's been reported that Vattenfall has had more trouble than expected overcoming public opposition to the storage of carbon captured at the Schwarze Pumpe plant. ... It seems safe to say, given Vattenfall's lack of interest in discussing Schwarze Pumpe in any detail today, that the plant also has not been a shining technical success."
No source for the bold assertion.

If that's proof, you better go back to the drawing board.

Link 3:
Really? One guys blog just regurgitating the same tired stuff?

Incorrect. As usually Commie. The tech is here and it's politics that holding it up. Truth butt hurts you.
I said there is no such thing as clean coal.

You disagreed and pointed to a pilot plant in Germany.

Said plant is not operational as advertised.

In fact, its currently releasing all of the CO2 just like every other coal plant.

Underground: Myths and realities of carbon capture and storage -- An E&E Report

"But until Vattenfall finds a place to stash its CO2, those dreams will be as intangible as the CO2 it collects and vents every few days back into the atmosphere."

Pretty pathetic example you are building your case upon. Guess that is why you have - as usual - resorted to name calling.

My statement stands.

really! That's news to us. Got names and $$$ amounts?
BTW, consensus has no place in science. (except maybe for those "scientists" who are so substandard as to need consensus to remain employed).

In all seriousness, not much has changed up here lately. We did get a new Smashburger over by the malls. Not usually worth mentioning, but they have an olive burger that is the closest thing to the legendary Mr. Fables one I have had. Exciting, I know, but it is West Michigan.

So, how does Australia compare to here? It is interesting to me the contrast between the two countries, so much alike yet completely different.

don't knock the baby beef on toast!! (haven't had any of that stuff in over 20 years).
Smashburger? That's a new one on me. It's been a few years since I've been back......I'm sure more has changed than has remained the same. Last time I was in Fremont it was almost totally changed from what I remember.

The thing that strikes me most about the differences is that at least here in Perth there are heaps more small businesses. The Aussies are not shy about venturing out on their own with regards to businesses. The variety is amazing and at least for me, is a shoppers paradise. The produce here is to die for and puts most of our produce to shame. Unfortunately Australia is suffering from the same type of leadership as we have at the moment....they seem bound and determined to destroy the economy with idiotic policies.
