Default DNA kit?

My DIL is adopted and has mentioned interest in pursuing DNA testing to find out her heritage. More than anything she wants to know more of her medical history for her daughters.

Any of you used one of these kits?

No, because I don't want my DNA data sold to a bunch of databases and ultimately to anyone that wants it without my knowledge or consent.

Amazon has one on sale right now

https://www.amazon.com/AncestryDNA-G...dp/B00TRLVKW0/

And I agree with dvarapala...Not selling my info out to some third party.

Although...I know my DNA has been logged already as part of a project we are working on (and have been for 10+ years) at work to map the human genome

I’m sure your hubbies is on file w his line of work but I have no intention of being in a database. Hell, I won’t even do Facebook yet alone be “mapped” for society.... my luck, they will find a cig but and charge me for littering...

I've had DNA testing for my latest dog, but not for me. I'd warn my family before I did tho. Give any that have any "issues" time to GTFO.

The Navy was going to take me to Captains mast for not submitting my DNA back in 1996. I was forced to contribute under threat of non-judicial punishment.

These days, companies know plenty about you by credit card use, supermarket clubs, internet use, email, and so forth. I don't see DNA test as any worse than signing in here to be honest. If she is interested, so be it, help her find the right test.

side note, a friend told me they were trying to cancel their cable due to issues with pricing and not really using it. When she called Verizon, the rep on the other end told her she did not blame her, as she only watches two shows, and not very often. She(the rep) listed the two shows almost instantly. My friend was horrified that the system knows her viewing habits. They know almost everything about you.

Cell phone--they track and listen.
internet--they track and save data and searches.
email-they scan your email and save data.
Supermarket discount club--they track what you buy.
Big box store-they track you.
Amazon--they track, listen, follow you.
GPS/waze/googley maps--they track you.

It goes on and on.

For one thing, no insurance company can scan your credit card history looking for genetic predispositions to certain diseases/medical conditions and then deny you coverage based on that info.

Huh, I thought that was outlawed, but I binged it anyway. I stand slightly corrected:

The federal Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act does prohibit insurers from asking for or using your genetic information to make decisions about whether to sell you health insurance or how much to charge you. But those privacy protections don't apply to long-term-care policies, life insurance or disability insurance.

Cloning is duplicating DNA
Duplicated DNA can be used for a LOT of bad reasons

Hard "pass".

What my own parents can't tell me, I don't need to know.

If someone wants my DNA, they can come on over and go through my socks.

Or send a HOT female over to collect it from the tap.

If I give out DNA samples the chick usually swallows it unless she makes me unload on her tits

You got enough room on your Jazzy for her to lay down?
