Le Mans
Just saw that Motor Trend is carrying the full race. First time in a long time I don't need to stream. All will be on the DVR for me to watch at a more gentlemanly hour.
Lots of chatter about the #24. Europeans are pretty uniformly hoping that the NASCAR-like entry will bomb. I think it's cool to see a modded ZL1 on the track. Hendrick got some older drivers, but he also brought the cream of the crop for an over the wall crew. "In the Pit Stop Challenge, the Garage 56 pit crew topped 16 squads in the GTE class (where the team was classified for this event). They performed a NASCAR-style pit stop in 10.364 seconds and were the only team to use a manual jack. In the overall competition, the team placed fifth, just 0.3 seconds behind the top team." |

I watch all 24 hours in my recliner, hook up the old catheter and down a few bottles of imodium, put the cooler on the floor to my left, and have two buckets chickens on the couch to my right.
Have not missed a second of any race in 30 years, Corvette Racing will beat all classes, including the hybrids and motorcycles. |

Hoping that they are just regrouping the program, but it doesn't look great. They'll still supply hardware, so the big guys will be fine. This has been Porsche model for years. I know a Porsche "partner" team out of MD, and they definitely are paying for their own gear. Full factory racing has been gone for years, as today's consumer buyers don't really GAF about the track. We're talking $100k at least to even get in a consumer version of these vehicles, and north of $500k to get in a racing version. This is far away from race on Sunday, sell on Monday. Part of me thinks that the "factory" decided that the fickle rules BS that goes on controls their destiny way beyond what they could do on their own, so F it. FWIW, I raced Mazdas. When you race, and register with them, Mazda will send OEM stuff at dealer cost. Best deal I ever had in racing. Tire contingencies are great, but they pay you for podiums. Got many free Toyo bucks. |

Long story short, it's in a class by itself. In recent history, the Delta Wing is the most well known of the cars that have run. https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/a...imental-class/ As for the "NASCAR engine" part, the various generations of Daytona prototypes have been using engines with a lot of the GM NASCAR technology and built by ECR since at least 2012 (if not before). I'm sure that ECR had plenty of input here as well. Lots of SB2s are running around in endurance/road racing. I'm sure that the current R07 has infinitely improved some of the SB2 weaknesses. A whole lot of GM pushrod V8s have survived 24h endurance races. Hopefully this one will be up to the task as well. |

I guaran-effing-tee you that if you gave me a few days at GM HQ, I could find 100X the things that needing cutting, with no sales loss, to easily fund Corvette Racing.
If GM was better run: 1) Corvette Racing would not be done 2) We would all own at least one GM 3) My C8Z would be in my driveway |

5) The Camaro wouldn't be a massive flop 6) The C8Z would have a manual option and wouldn't be $150k 7) The C8 would be attractive 8) The Blazer wouldn't be ghey 9) The trucks wouldn't be ghey .... |

I was once a hard core follower of IMSA Corvette Racing. Then a few years ago they made it almost impossible for anyone out of the US to watch the races live.
Only option was PPV in some cases. Other option was paying monthly for a special channel. Then they killed that also. I stopped watching a few years ago and I'm sure they lost a lot of other fans from what I've seen on reddit and twitter when this comes up. It's a shame cause I enjoyed watching the races especially the whole 24 hours of LeMans. |
