Default How many years/miles do you get out of tires?

The tires on my daily driver (94 Silverado) are about shot. They are Yokohama Geolander H/T-S. I bought the tires on 6/22/07 and they have just over 31,000 miles on them. Both front tires have bad wear on the outside edge. Almost no tread left and cracking in between the tread. The back tires have about 2-3X's the tread. They were all replaced at the same time.

I think these are rated at 50,000 - 60,000 mile tires, so 31,000 seems a little low. That being said, they've been through 4 years of use and sitting outside.

I think my alignment is off. Seems like the camber is off on both sides causing the tires to roll on the outside edge.

Anyways, I assume years of use can be a factor as much as miles. Is 4 years normal life for a daily tire?

You may indeed have front end issues, but if you rotate/balance your tires regularly, the treadwear should pretty much be even on all 4 tires. I suspect you haven't been rotating. I do it every other oil change, and that seems to work.

I never rotate on the vette, 2 diff sizes so can't, and most radials you have to keep them on the same side anyway.....so it's a f/r switch, did that to my wife's car just recently because they got a little worn and lumpy on the front....

we don't get good years or miles outta tires here for some reason....

when thay say 60k miles tires.....you lucky to get 1/2 that .....

the two on the camper front are 12 years old, cracking and have full tread depth...doubt 5000 miles on them.....but I"m told too damn old to be reliable, but seem fine, really....but I can get some 2 y/o used tires for like 75 bux....so not taking any chances....

Gotta keep the front end aligned and tires balanced and rotated to get the 50-60 K they claim.

I had Dunlop Grantreks that came on my Tundra and dumped them for BFG Long Trail T/A's, what an improvement in ride and handling.

I consistently get 50K+ miles out of tires. I have a sports car with 255's on it, an SUV, and an El Camino. I never rotate the tires on any of them. All Michelins.

How many years does it take you to get 50K?

Depends on the car. For the sports car, about 4 years. The SUV, 3 years. The El Camino, 10+ years. I'm not kidding about the 50K miles. I once got 68K out of a set. I think it's a matter of mating a quality tire to the driver; for instance, Pirellis and I don't get along, maybe 25K. Another thing is proper inflation, no sudden stops and starts, use heavy duty anti-sway bars. I don't baby my cars, but I don't abuse them either.

45K on the Goodyear Wranglers on the Yukon.

I'm at 25K on the Vette and its time. Probably look at Michelins even tho I hate the French and never liked what they did tot the USGP.

I can understand your feelings about the French, but Michelins are great tires. I've never had to add more than 1 ounce to balance one. Plus, they're competitive in price (among quality tires).

The bigger around your tires are, the farther they will go. My 16in. tall truck tires usually last me 60,000 miles, Michelin's, 3 sets so far, and they weren't that bad when I replaced them!.

I've had excellent luck with almost all the Michelin's I've had. Two glaring exceptions- the OEM Harmonies that came on the Marquis, and the MXV4 "Green's" I had on an Accord (also OEM). Just put a set of Primacy MXV4's on the Marquis, and I'm seriously impressed with how quiet they are, and how well they handle wet weather.

I've also had good luck with Toyo's, both on trucks and on the Mustang. The pickup currently has Goodyear Silent Armor's with over 65K miles on them. Still not down to the wear bars- another tire I've been very impressed with.
