Just bought about a dozen various parts for the race car... shopped Amazon, RockAuto, Jegs, and Summit.

Bought about half from Amazon, free Prime shipping, showed up in 2 days.
Bought the other half from Summit, free shipping over $100, 2 days.

For everything except a Gates radiator hose, RA was more expensive than either Summit or Amazon and about the same as Jegs once shipping was included. Amazon was the cheapest on the hose (seller was actually Amazon, not a 3rd party).

I like RockAuto. I like Summit and Jegs, and I like the O'reilly's and Carquest down the street. They all serve a purpose and they compete against each other, but I do also wonder that it could be possible that online business will be the demise of some brick and mortor parts chains. (I guess this is why O'reilly's scooped up all the kragen/checker stores out here).

Another observation is that the 'consumer grade' parts houses now do commercial accounts with delivery to local shops like Napa and Carquest pro parts houses always did. This is how they survive now imo.

I don't want my parts next week, or tomorrow for that matter. I use the major's sites to determine who has what in stock and compare prices locally... then I go get what I need TODAY and go to work. I could care if I spend an extra 40 or 50 bucks if I can be assured the parts and quality are correct, and never have to worry about return shipping and delayed satisfaction if things go south, or parts are damaged or lost in transit. I like to do business face to face when time matters, the 'net has it's place if I have the luxury of time to shop and wait.

Amazon has enough vendors that they beat Rock Autos price 90% of the time. Gotta love prime.

I hate amazon...unless you buy into their gimmick prime...or bend over for shipping, it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 days for me to get anything i order from them.

You need to know Spanish if you go into our Carquest.

Amazon's return policy is great. Plus you get free music and movies. Don't see RA offering that.

Perfect example...

Lets pretend that my alternator seized and killed my belt this morning (it didnt)...

Go to rock auto..

GMC
1994
K1500
5.7 V8
Belt Drive>Belt

Electrical> Alternator

chose my belt firs,t goodyear gatorback, specifies for models with A/C, and no emissions pump.

Alternator specifies for models with 105a charging system...

Both ship same location, price out the door, shipped..have em both by Friday...93.48

I went to Amazon...I couldnt figure out how to look up the parts for my specific vehicle..I chose my vehicle, but I couldnt find alternator,s if I searched alternators it showed me ALL the alternator,s when I chose my truck again, it shwed me intakes for a ford F150...so I gave up, couldnt make a damn price comparison...Amazon sucks big sweaty donkey dick. They may have the parts there somewhere, but without using some other comapny to find part numbers...I cant find shit.

If my alternator goes, I need it fixed now, Wednesday at 12:20, not Friday at whenever. Every parts store I go to has a line. Until that stops happening, online vendors will not replace parts stores. And yes, Prime is totally worth it if you shop online a lot.
