Almost, I was putting the wires on the plugs last night and noticed a hole in the drivers side head. Don't know why I missed it, it's the same hole that the the temp sensor goes in on the pass side. I picked up the plug today. Besides that just the serpentine belt and intake/filter. I think I'll take Mikes advice and not fill the coolant until the initial start up. I am going to wait on 2 things. My son wanted to be there on start up but he works swing so we don't see each other until weekends. Also, I will be getting in touch with my tuner (also the guy who ordered my custom cam, rockers and push rods) to see if he wants to be there. I would love nothing more than to just go out and fire it up but what the hell I've planned and purchased parts for 2 years so no need to get in a rush now. I will do my best to remember to have my video cam on hand and post up.

We have bought several parts from Rock Auto lately and they have sent me a code for a 5% discount. The email said I can give it to anyone and is good until May 22. Just in case someone can use it.

51896864302205

Using Your Discount Code
Enter the code above in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart. If you are using our traditional HTML catalog, please click the "Apply" button to the right of the field. Your discount will automatically appear, subtracted from your order total.

Please note: We sometimes get calls from people who put the word "discount" in front of their code and do not get the discount. Please enter ONLY the discount code, no other words or numbers.

The discount takes 5% off our already-low prices. There's no limit on order size or the number of orders. Use the code for your next order, and share the code with friends, neighbors, relatives, the guy at the corner garage--anyone you know who works on cars or trucks.

This discount code expires on May 22, 2011; so don't wait!

At this point everything is done except adding Tranny fluid and coolant. I pulled the chip out of the computer to bring to my tuner. He is suppose to re program it to work with the Ford 30# injectors tomorrow. Also didn't put the new valve covers on yet because I knew I wouldn't be finished yet and I didn't want to get them scratched up.

Thanks, I've been looking for the raised lettering for the fuel rail covers in red if you come across them.

The mem cal chip has been changed and corrected for the new components in my engine. I'm sure it will still need to by fully tuned but this will get me going. Still have the original chip in case the original motor goes back in. Hopefully tomorrow will be the big day.

I'm hoping for around 400 at the crank so maybe 340 or so rwhp. Have no idea where it will land. This was the first attempt.

Thanks, the bad part is most of it is covered up and can't be seen. I actually did a lot of cleaning and painting on brackets and parts I used from the old engine. It makes a lot of difference.

Sounds awesome man!

Im glad you are shooting low... But in all honesty you will be making much more then 340rwhp... It sounds like its going to be much closer to 400rwhp!

Good luck with it man! Love following this thread!

I'm still pretty green at most of this and rely on others to help with information. What I've been told is the cam will have a lot of torque but I may have left some HP on the table compared to what the rest of the engine could have been capable of. I guess whenever I can make it to a dyno we'll know.

Well it looks like I may have to pay the stupid tax. The engine seems to be running strong despite needing a final tune. But,,,I'm getting a Code 36 which from my research will most likely be the opti. I bought a used one from a CF member that was supposed to be a GM part and have only 10k on it. I've had relatively bad luck purchasing used stuff from the forum so trying to use a used opti was not the place to cheap out. I'm not positive yet, it started to fail when I was running through the gears to check the shift points. I was thinking maybe the stock fuel pump wasn't keeping up since it happened after getting on it hard. But I noticed I didn't have one of the radiator hoses completely tight and was leaking a little coolant so then I put my focus on the opti. I'm sure it didn't get wet because I sealed it with silicone pretty good. But then I pulled the codes and came up with a 36. After it started to fail I limped it home and let it cool off (that's when I discovered and fixed the coolant leak). After it cooled off it started right up and I drove it up and down the road for about 20 miles and it did fine but then I wasn't hitting it hard either.

I hate to say this but the opti scared me away from the LT1. I had a Z28 that went through a few of them.I never bought another LT1 but that doesn't mean I wouldn't today.

IMHO, there's nothing wrong with the opti as a distributor. They are normally healthy and can last well over 100K miles. They ARE a PITA to replace however. It's this and the ridiculous cost of $600 (GM part) to replace that gives them the bad rap. I hear what your saying though, If someone said I could have the same engine with a regular distributor I would take it.

Newest update: What ever was going on seems to be gone. I took it out and gave the car a good 40 mile or so drive and stood on it several times. I'm guessing just enough coolant must have leaked on the connector to give me a problem but then dried out. Anyway I spoke with my tuner and will be taking the car in next week for the final tune.

Thanks man, I'll post up new pics and a new vid when it's all done. I still need to put on the new valve covers. If we were closer I would probably already have been in your garage or shop drinking a beer. We have mod days here from time to time to help one another. Usually they are just day jobs like exhaust or brakes. Some of the guys recently did a cam and some other stuff on a C5. Not so easy getting people to show up on a engine swap though.

I know you would

I haven't had time to work on mine in a week. This weekend I'm busy and the next is Easter. A mod party sounds like a good idea. We could call it the pull out party
