TV cable removal 700r4

Can anyone tell me if I need to remove the pan on my tranny to get the TV cable off. That's the only thing left to remove the tranny. I found this web page but mine is not like the one in the pic.

Mine doesn't have the loop on the end of the cable, it's a solid wire with a hook the goes into a hole on the lever in the tranny.

If I recall correctly you do not need to. You should be able to pull the cable out far enough to release it from the hook.

That's what the the "how to" on the link says but mine is opposite of the pic. I don't see how the lever in the tranny can come up out of the hole.

It sticks out just enough for you to grab it. Pull it out a little and hook the cable on(i use a pait of needle nose) then pull the other end of the cable so the sleeve holds it in place. There should be one 10mm bolt holding it down on the trans.

Damn, I'm just not getting it. I can pull the cable housing up far enough to get a hold of the cable wire. I can look down in the hole and see the lever that the cable hooks to. When I pull on the cable and the lever reaches the top of it's arc that's it, it stops moving. I grabbed the cable wire with pliers and they only slipped.

That is odd, I have never had an issue getting it out far enough. Sometimes I have to pull it out by hand then put the pliers on it to hold it out. Try that.

Yeah, that's exactly what I did. I can easily grab the cable wire with needle nose pliers. My car is a 93 which was the last year before they switched over to the 4l60e but I don't think mine is the electronic version. I could get a set of vise grips on it but I don't want to mess it up. A local transmission shop tried to tell me GM was using the 4l60e in 93 and he said I would have to unhook it from the throttle body. The FSM is calling it a 700r4 so I have no reason to think otherwise. The other end doesn't go into the throttle body, it goes into ASR I think. What ever it is it looks like a PITA to get the cable out of that end too.
