Well, I'd contemplated a new Vette if I liked the C7.....I think I'm going pickup shopping this summer or fall. F250 Super Duty or Chevy 2500, whichever I get the better deal on.

Love the jet cockpit, C4 interior styling cues. I see a lot of the instrument pods and switchgear in almost the same location as in my '92. It would make for a very familiar, intimate driving facility, indeed.
The electrical steering doohickeys look cool, too. Can't wait to read the performance reviews. I do not like the rear tail lamp lenses. That would be my first Mid-America mod if I had the 60K to plunk down on one. It'll be fun to see 'em up close and personal at CI-III in May. |

I guess I'm in the minority... I like the rear. Granted, I can't stand the narrow body C6s. They are about the most boring, uninspired, bland Corvette ever created.
Other than not being round, there really isn't much similarity between the Camaro and Vette lights. To top it off, the entire center of the Vette lights are recessed whereas the Camaro are flat. If you try to isolate features you are going to be able to find similarities, which I have no problem with across a brand's lines but when it comes down to it, nobody is going to confuse these 2 cars. The picture below has the correct height/width ratios: |

For the record, these are a LOT more similar than the current batch...

Ohhhhh... estimated base price = $53,000. I might have to make that happen. I have had my 02Z since 2005. I never even remotely considered going to a C6 for quite a few reasons (don't want to turn this into a C6 bashing thread).
The C7 on the other hand looks like the first Vette since the C5Z actually designed from the ground up to be taken to a track. From the seats to the trand/diff coolers to the vented hood... everything about it looks fantastic. I'm hoping that the new engine doesn't have the tendency to turn itself into shrapenal like LS2/LS3 as soon as you put it on a track. I might have to hold out for another year or 2 to see what the Z06 (or whatever they plan on calling it) has to offer. |

I agree with you, the Base C6 is one of lamest looking Vette since 1975-1976 models. I loved the moment the C6 came out, but the C6Z just bumped it off the map. I think the C6GS would be the best bang for the buck on looks, and performance.
Now, the more I learn about the new LT1 engine the more it impresses me. That thing is just a sleeper beast. The new tires are not as thick, but if you guys read the new Michelins are very "sticky". Smaller tire, less energy needed to rotate, and needless to say faster acceleration. Regarding the tail lights, they are what they are. GM will not change a design because a lot of future non-C7 Corvette owners are bitching about it. The fact is that for every one that bitches about it, there are seven that love the new look. I think it looks ok on all colors, but Laguna Blue. That will be fixed by the aftermarket with the blackout kits. Now looks at this baby in black with HRE wheels. Don't tell me it doesn't give you a performance erection! |

Does the Z51 pkg on the C7 include dry sump oiling- I already forgot some of the details. ...and if it is $53k, I will think about getting a second or third year car, but waiting for the mid-cycle refresh will be the best thing (like when the LS3 came out). I know i'm going to be hating life when those new ones hit the road and my (butt ugly, lol) narrow body C6 is yesterday's news. |

We aren't talking about highly modified suspensions on race cars. You can EASILY do that in an otherwise stock C6 with nothing but some sticky tires and almost every track on the planet has at least 1 left hand corner of that length. No matter how anybody spins it, it is beyond pathetic that Chevrolet missed that and put out a Corvette that can't even survive an HPDE. Porsche, Ferrari... no problem. C4, C5 Corvette... no problem. WRX, STI... no problem. Mini Cooper, Mazda Miata... no problem. C6.... KA-BOOM!! On the plus side (for me), it really does seem to have helped keep the value of the C5Z a little higher. While base C5s will most likely continue to fall, I think the Z06 with it's LS6 will on average be worth more than the base C6 fairly soon. They're already getting pretty close. ...and for the record, I don't think the C6 is at all ugly. They are just a little plain for my tastes. |

I'm not sure the C7 coupe would be any better- we'll see...probably still gonna have to spend the big $ to get a model with dry sump oiling. |

Damn first time I've seen that clip. This new SBC rocks. Let's see how it does once the crazy tuners find a way to alter the tune for more performance. ...same shit....tune, K&N filters, bigger TB, port, stroke, headers, exhaust, lowered, bigger wheels, wider tires, coilovers, poly bushings etc etc. |
