Default Vinyl dies.....

Would love to get a nice darker coloring on my new vinyl top on the vette, something a darker tan than on the car now....say Dark Saddle....brown......

anyone ever try a spray vinyl that can actually work on a convertible top?? without coming apart and sun damage after say 4 years?? keep in mind the top is down most of the time, so it will be rubbing vinyl on vinyl.....I ASSume....

I guess going to a auto top place would get you the information you need, what year is it?
Also just curious why you keep it down more than not? I keep mine up all the time unless driving it with top down to prevent wrinkles in top and stress on window, just wondering.

I have had this car since '95, the white vinyl top went fine with the then burgundy paint job, in spite of the dark saddle interior....it's a '72.....but over the years the old top died off, so another white top, and it was a bummer, never fit worth shit, had to cut hell outta it around the windows to let the doors shut....so after some 5-6 years or better, I got a tan top.....still vinyl....

so to dye it.....

can't seem to find anything intelligent on the .net about this topic....

A quick search comes up with a whole lot of "NO" answers.

Gene; I dyed the entire interior of both my 77 Vette and the 90 Miata using VHT brand vinyl dye. It has yet to flake, rub off or bleed into my pants. The hardest part of doing this is ensuring all of the Armor All or top dressing or whatever magic goop might be on the top is GONE GONE GONE. The dye will fisheye and fail to penetrate if the top is not scrupulously clean. Once cured, I have had no issues shining things up. Note please I only did this on interior components... not on something that will be directly exposed to the sun so if you decide to try this I make no promises about your outcome.
