I NEVER, and I cannot stress the "never" enough...I never use my PIN at the gas station. The pump will ask "Is this a debit card?" and even though it IS, I always say "no" and enter my zip code. For some stupid reason, this ONE time, I answered YES and entered my PIN. That was last night. This morning I checked my balance and was shocked to say the least.

Now, that's where the card information was grabbed. That is not where they withdrew the money.

So tomorrow, I'll let the bank know that I am aware of where I was scammed.

What puzzles me is how they got the PIN in order to use the card at an ATM. They cloned my card, but how do they get the PIN?

Can you explain how you know this? Have you confirmed the existence of a skimmer with the station?

Depending on the type of skimmer used, since you said you did enter your PIN at that station, the keypad input could have been captured as well. But the same could happen at any ATM, supermarket, etc...Which is why I am asking how you're so certain that's where the card data was actually skimmed.

When my credit card number was pinched I was told by the CC company it most likely was NOT done electronically. An example she gave me was restaurants. You have your meal, and while you're sitting there chatting with your date trying to figure out how you're gonna get in her britches the waitress brings out the bill in the nice padded check presenter or waiter wallet thing. You slip your card in and the waitress toodles off with your card to run it.

The minute that card leaves your possession any dickbag can get the numbers off it and go wild. While you're busy angling for snatch, someone else is busy writing down all the information they need to start buying shit online.

I agree it could have been done anywhere, but I just used it at that gas station the night before and I frequent the same places all the time. This is the only place and time I broke from routine and used my PIN for gas. Just applying deductive reasoning.

I use my debit card for gas all the time, but I always use the Credit Card option.

Yesterday the bank (credit union) replaced my funds. Very quick on their part. Today I picked up the new ATM card. I'm back to good except for wanting to take a red hot poker and slowly insert it into the eye socket of the jackwad that did this.

Excellent customer service on their part - the credit union not the jackwad
