Default meow; $800 puzzy pics

long story short... and please don't laugh . . . . . .

Yvonne is a cat person.
For about the past year we've seen "Bengal" (toy Leopard) kittens at the mall pet stores; $1200 - $1600 each

pic of a typical adult Bengal cat:

Yvonne really wanted one but I stood firm on not paying this much... especially to a mall pet type store.

Guy at work knows the manager at one of these stores, and found out who the local breeders were that are supplying the kittens. One of these breeders was just 10 miles from home. The mall pet stores pay regular price to the breeder, but then doubles it for resale

We just bought one $800... a little 8 week old tyke (but got two for one, more below). Here's Jynx:

Jynx mother "Vega" had problems during delivery of this litter and had to have surgery and was spayed. The mother cat now didn't have any value to the breeder so she said we could take Jynx and his mother for the price of just the little dude.

We visited them today, and will be taking home Wednesday after work.

Here's little Jynx and his mother:

That is a great looking kitten and looks like it will be even better with those colors, once it gets older.

OP, I would have sent you Fuzzball for just the cost of shipping.

Oh, Hell, who am I kidding? I would have sent you Fuzzball AND paid for one way shipping.

ya know how it is when trying something new... and Bengal cats are new to us; in that all you read online are puff-pieces on the breed. I don't know what is truth - or exaggeration, but here goes.

ref: Bengal (toy Leopard) cats

* grow to the size of a medium to large domestic housecat; 8-14 lbs
* can be trained; walk on leash... sit... simple things.
* are Hypoallergenic; meaning those who have an allergy to cats may not with Bengals
* like water; will jump in tub/shower with you
* are more vocal than a typical domestic housecat; meows more.
* are more agile, can climb better than typical cat
* have pedigrees (I'm serious), Jynx father came from Brazil
* first bred in the 1980's overseas... became an official US breed in 1992

Pictures don't do them justice. Bengals are gorgeous animals.

Fearless Fred was a Bengal. Very vocal cat. Dumber than a box of rocks, but he somehow survived being outside, which is where he wanted to be. Inside he'd howl so loud that people down the road said, "WTF was that?!?"

Part of the delay getting the breed into the US was a rule/law that there had to be "x" amount of generations born (from the original wild-cat breeding) before they could be sold here. The attempt was to remove as much wild from them as possible; had something to do with classifying the breed as a "domestic pet" (which made it easier to import and then breed here if it was under that classification). I seem to remember reading the law called for 3-4 generations to have occurred.

I believe an F1 is the product of a domestic cat and a "wild" cat being bred". An F2 would be the product of the F1 and another domestic cat. An F3 is would be the product of an F2 and another domestic cat. Some states will limit anything wilder than an F3 without special permits. There are a couple of other breeds like this most notably the Savannah cat which is a cross between a domestic cat and a Serval

UPDATE:

got both momma and son home last night. They were nervous at the beginning, but seem to have already adjusted.

We are keeping them separate from our existing two cats; prolly for at least a week.

Really neat looking cats there (both momma and kitten)

We are going through integrating our new kitten with the other 2 adult Tonks.
It's a process.

Mrs Fox adds that Momma is beautiful and wants to see more pictures as the kitten grows up.

In the CFOT tradition though I am wondering if the plastic sheeting is just on your side of the bed?

for some reason the part with the mother really pisses me off. Glad they found a good home.
