Speaking of Scotch...
I was looking for a new experience today and The Glenlivet is running a special box set of 12 year double oak with a pair of "specially casked" nip bottles to sweeten the deal. I started with the 15 year French Oak Reserve which has a marvelous pear nose and a pleasant mixed fruit finish.
Next I opened the 12 year double oak; Apples on FIRE!!!!! The nose is spicier than the French Oak and this stuff will light your tongue and throat up. That said, one part water to 5 parts spirit calmed the flames and the result is akin to drinking liquid Fuji apples without the sugary kick. Not nice neat this one is excellent when slightly dilute! I will try the 14 year Cognac cask with a fresh palate at a later date. |
