Default Does your pet perform a useful service?
What is "useful" is very broad; a guide dog is of course useful. Being a loving, constant companion is useful. But I'm talking about less nobler things...like catching mosquitos. My 7-month old kitty, Smokey, loves (hates?) mosquitos. He spends early evening each day "on watch". He spots a mosquito, then goes into Comando mode: Silently stalk, keep an eye on prey, attack at the right time, eat prey. He swats the bug with his paw against a cabinet or wall, then peels back his paw so that his tongue can stick onto the pest. He's obsessed with it, and he's very good at it.

Naturally all my cats are great mousers, but I'm not sure they're bringing more live rats near the house than they're killing. It's more of a game with them than a service. Same with baby snakes--I don't know if they would even be near my house unless a cat dragged them up.

What special talent for helpfulness does your pet have?

Nine freakin' cats in the house.
They don't do a damn thing but eat, drink, and shit.
I leave the doors open so they can take off, but NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!!!
They got it too good.
To top it off, Cat Lady feeds 5 or 6 ferrals that camp out on my deck.
And the family of racoons.
And a couple of ugly fvckin possums.

If by useful service you mean shed hair everywhere, eat non-stop, wake me up 4 times a night, moans and cries all the time because he wants outside, destroys furniture, in general pisses me off a lot more than you'd think a 10 lbs fur ball possibly could then yeah, he performs a very useful service.
