Oh shit..I would hope that the truck was loaded wrong, because I can't even fathom how even the dumbest of ground personnel could do that screw up.

I just put on the big boy pants and went through with it. Enjoyable Experience.
I'm actually glad to hear someone else say this. I'm a history nut, an aircraft nut, and pretty much just...well... a nut in general. You may remember that I recently posted a thread about another B-17 (Aluminum Overcast) that was at a local event a few weeks ago. It ended up not being a choice because all of the rides were booked by the time that I even realized it was in town but after the initial thought of how awesome it would be, I had the thoughts of just how dangerous those old birds really were (are). Even when brand new, it was a regular occurance for them to have major failures and crashes not at all related to enemy combat. I have spent more hours than I could count hanging out of the door of an SH-60 without a hint of fear but something about standing there with the 3 year old on my shoulders made me think about it a little differently. Kinda weird in hindsight.

I planned on going up the next time they were in town. I may just leave that one unchecked on the bucket list for now...

Just reading about that being a distinct possibility. Holy shit.

EDIT:

Quote from another forum...

Quote:
I got a call from my son last night. I could tell he was in tears.

He works in Windsor Locks CT. The place he works at is less than a mile from and in line with runway 6. He was on break in the back parking lot when he heard a plane sounding like it was in trouble. A few seconds later 9o9 came over the building at what he guessed that about 100 foot altitude. He said the inside engine on the left wing was not rotating. The engines on the right wing were smoking. The pilot had the rudder pushed full right turn. He thought to himself this was not going to end well and asked God to help them. It wasn't long after that he heard the crash and then saw the smoke.
That sounds a hell of a lot like wrong fuel. OMFG. That is so far beyond unacceptable that I can't even put it into words.

The loss of life and a piece of history is incredibly sad.

Sounding like that was ruled out on incorrect fuel

I will go ahead and say, if the wingtip reserves were full. Jet A wouldn't have touched it. I will still go with wrong fuel. Wingtips were all that were left.

So wingtips are the last for fuel to drawn from?

Generally, if flying any distance the tips would be burned off first. However; there's no way to tell without cockpit voice from this flight whether that was indeed the case here.
