The latest wave of scams involves a fake subscription renewal to "Geek Squad" to the tune of $500/year. The giveaways are that the text is always center-justified and always includes wording of the form "if you want to cancel this renewal, please click/call..."

When has a legitimate business selling a legitimate service ever been so eager to get you to stop giving them money that they practically beg you to cancel?

I may have to get a few holes dug in advance for anyone whontakes advantage of her.

I had a fun one this week...


Receive eMail from person in my address book requesting help.

Responded, "sure, what's up?"

Was told niece was suffering from late stage mesothelioma, parents died of COVID, and he wasn't able to get said niece her birthday gift because he was out of town and the stores around him were out of Apple gift cards.

I said, "of course, how much?"

$400, in 4x$100 form. Please scratch back and send him pics so he can send to his niece.

Sent a number of eMails during the day saying I was out running errands, but planned to hit the Apple store.

Several eMails received asking if was still able to buy/get pics.

Sent pics of vulvar cancer.

Crickets...
