One indicator of craziness that has never failed me is: When someone convinces themselves that they aren't crazy, it's just that they are smarter than everyone else they come into contact with, they are around the bend, and it will be a tough road back.

UD definitely got there with his self-diagnosed "Asperger's Syndrome", and comparing himself intellectually to Elon Musk. There are currently two people in my real life who are at this point. It's not a fun show to watch.

My step sister was bipolar, as well. Diagnosed as a teenager (back when they used to call it manic depressive.) She passed away a few years ago at the age of 53. Heart attack. Sadly, it happened after she had gotten her life back together and had maintained sobriety for two years. The heart damage appears to have been caused by alcoholism due to self-medicating, which was an active choice on her part.

Anyhow, I agree with what you’ve said with regard to recognizing that someone is already around the bend. Based on personal experience, I would also add these behaviors: Lack of humility. Lack of remorse in the face of causing obvious and profound damage to relationships. Manipulative behavior that is solely focused on self-preservation and gratification…even when it is apparent that it is impacting others negatively.

Note that my step sister’s mental illness did not preclude her from knowing right from wrong. She was aware of right from wrong. It did cause apathy, though, so right and wrong was a moot point.

I wish Doug well. He should have stayed in the treatment facility for longer. I hope he is actively involved in some sort of outpatient care.

I said it in 2015 and again a couple of years ago. I'm not happy that he's got issues, but people who said he was just trolling all this time, well.... which is it? is he pulling an internet con job? or is he broken? Regardless, he's got issues either way.

I don't want anybody to get me wrong on this. I do have a genuine concern. Never met @UniqueDoug in person, but we have both helped each other over the years. He also recieved the first bag of dicks candy and suspected me, but couldn't confirm until many months later when I told him...then the UNAdickers got going with maybe 4 or 5 of us (no spring loaded confetti from us, though). He's been a good friend over the web and we have taken digs at each other over the years, but I really want to see him not be just happy, but content. I define those differently. Happy is in the here and now. Content is the long run and that leads to happy more often than not if it's done right. I may not be happy at the moment, but I am content (not apathetic) with where I am now and that has lead to happiness. Been many years since I was here and you may have noticed over both forums that I am generally less vindicitive and hateful than when I first joined this circus. Sirius, I hope he achieves content (contentment... not quality content because that is a train wreck) then starts on happy in a healthy way.

It’s real. Our daughter-in-law has been in a resident treatment program for the last 5 years for severe depression and bipolar. It’s unlikely she’ll ever be well enough to go home to our son and two grandsons. I see a lot of Doug’s symptoms in her before treatment. It’s incredibly sad to watch, and without professional treatment it won’t end well for Doug.

Either way he has serious issues. if it's a troll, then the amount of time wasted, thought, effort, machievalien setups... that's a sure sign of issues (define issues any way you like) and if it's not a troll, well, he has issues as he claims.
