How are they going to shoot you? They can't carry guns here. Maybe O will have them run around going "pew, pew, pew."

Neither is true.

I haven't heard a legit news source state that he's being charged.

I have read that he is the Commanding Officer of the facility which gives him broad independent authority.

IDGAS if the sheeple might find the sight of M4s in public disturbing...we are indeed at war and should be prepared at all times!

Ever notice how many pictures we've seen of Israeli soldiers walking around fully armed in public places?
They have first hand experience with these assholes and now we are starting to see the same thing.
We need to rise to the occasion and let them feel the threat of armed reaction wherever they go.
I think NavyC5 and RedLS1GTO are right. Orders must be followed to make it work.Hopefully the shameful spectacle
of a court martial of a hero may bring the changes needed.

It would seem that the fine folks here in TN (the Land of Shootin' Stuff) who make the CCW laws must be smarter than the Feds who make the laws for our enlisted personnel. For example, if I am in a location that is visibly posted as a no carry zone and a situation develops where I would have to draw and fire my weapon to save my life or others I would not be prosecuted for doing so.

I understand part of military duty is to follow orders without question. I get that. But to what end? No matter what the result is? If your C.O told you to jump off a cliff should you?

Did White break a military directive? Of this there is no doubt. Did he save lives doing so? Witnesses say yes. So I guess the question is which is more important: saving the lives of many other unarmed military personnel or following the misguided directive some moron decreed and watch the asshole shoot them down in cold blood?

I am guessing if one asks Lt. Commander Timothy White if he knew he might face charges for defending his men he would answer:

Damn right, and I'd do it again. Sir.

Since the Navy is publicly denying the claims published by Allen West, you probably won't.

Are you goddamn serious? Did you really just compare our servicemen and women to Nazi Germany?

Just... wow.

Here's a little hint. If you feel the need to start something with "no offense", it's probably offensive to those it is directed towards, in this case, those who serve and who have served.

But hey, by all means, feel free to sit at your f**king keyboard and tell us all how you would do it better.

No, it's not that simple. Not even close. There are decisions to be made... ethical, personal, moral. If you choose not to obey an order, that's great. Man up and take the consequences that come as a result. 1 time in my career I willfully and knowingly disobeyed an order. That's a story for another day and perhaps a beer. I knew the consequences of doing so when I did it. I made a decision, I stuck to it, and I would do it again. In this case, I suspect the LCDR feels the same way.

This isn't an "unlawful order". LCDR knew, beyond any doubt that he was breaking a regulation. Why did he do it? Only he knows.

For this rule, to be perfectly honest, I have absolutely no desire for every 18 year old boot seaman to be walking around Norfolk or San Diego with a gun simply because they are in the Navy. Same goes for every other service. Ariman Timmy doesn't need to be walking around stateside with an M4... just because. The simple truth is that there is absolutely no need for it. Is there anybody here who has served or is serving that thinks that every person on a base should be carrying around a rifle?

My personal preference on the matter would be that bases allow those qualified to carry on base if they desire to do so.

The Navy may win the battle with LCDr White, but it will surely loose the PR war that this has started.

I can tell the former military in this thread.

Orders are orders. However, if you feel an order is unjustified, you can disobey it. As said before, be prepared for the consequences. I totally agree that all military should not carry weapons. I had sailors that couldn't tie their own shoelaces and no f'n way would I want them carrying.

Funny in that some 25 years ago, on a Scout overnight visit to Norfolk, the Marine guard put down his AR with long mag....and kept his .45 in holster, and we went looking for lodging, him with radio......

now it is obvious that was policy 25 years ago, WTF is the diff in this case???

The only difference I see now is that the Marine would be in trouble for leaving his post whereas 25 years ago (anything pre 2001), security was way more relaxed.

There are a large number of armed folks on bases; gate guards, guards at various specific posts, MPs, etc. It's not like the places are left wide open with no way to protect them.
