I believe that he came out to finally admit to everyone that he was gay, and to help other gays know that it is acceptable to do the same.
And, he's old. That opens up a whole new population of tail that would not normally approach him .

The point is lost because it wasn't necessary. People who thought he was gay, or knew he was, certainly aren't impacted. I can't imagine anyone that thought he was straight is impacted either. It was done for him. It doesn't further any cause, it doesn't make him a better artist now, or a better human.

I cannot begin to imagine in my wildest dreams there is some gay guy that, upon learning Barry Manilow came out, has decided that now he can too.

you can't change your skin color. that's the way you were born, based on your parent's skin color.

you are born either boy or girl. not 69 other options the state of CA lists. you choose to be gay. Christians believe that it is a sin. a moral failure. you can yell all you want at me, but your problem is with God, not me. i'm just telling you what God says on the topic.

You've got to be kidding. Maybe in the Mideast, but not here.

There will always be nuts that want to hate gays, but there are always nuts that want to hate anybody for any reason. Gays aren't special, they get to get hated just like the rest of us. The fringe element will always out be there stirring up shit just to stir it up.

Then there are the folks that just want no part of it. Doesn't mean they hate them; they just don't want to associate with them. They will always be here as well.

I've got a gay cousin. One of the best people I know. And he's the one that is always quick with the gay jokes. He had once asked me why I didn't tease him about it. I told him that is no fun cracking gay jokes on someone that is actually gay. You slam your buddies with gay jokes.
John is out of the closet with his work and most family. When asked why he doesn't let the whole family know; it's because some of the folks are just raised that being gay is a sin and likely cannot or will not accept otherwise. But those folks are good people. They are not ignorant bigots, this is just a belief they grew up with (and they are all in their 70's/80's ). So according to John, who loves them, it's just not worth putting them through that.

One thing that puts a lot of people off, is the over representation of gays in the media. 2-3% of the population are getting over 20% of the attention. Even Milo bitches about it.
