They've been offered as kit and race cars for about 60 years now. The company that reproduces them is currently for sale. All based on the original Bill Thomas car, which was designed in chalk on a garage floor. IIRC. Name: cheetah.jpg

How many of the 24 are left, and what would a restored one be worth now?

Edit: VIN 002 was one of two test mules. It's fully restored and is currently for sale at only $2M. Link with lots of pics here.

IIRC they were too stiff and too short and had a hard time staying planted on the track. Fast as hell and even more dangerous. Totally visceral. NOT a car for GSC3!!

There was one that showed up at The Mitty at Road Atlanta every year. It’s a really weird set up with the driver aft of the rear wheels. It was blue with white stripes, I’ve probably got a picture of it on my phone somewhere. It wasn’t there last year, maybe again this year. It was never competitive.

My next door neighbor has one, made from a kit. He did the work himself.

That's a Texas plate and the photo is in downtown Houston. I'm guessing it was part of the Art Car Parade?

I always thought that was just a kit car. Never knew Chevy actually produced them...

They did not. If I am correct "The Factory" was decidedly NOT race centered when this car was designed. It was conceived and built in direct conflict with the Corporate "rules of engagement". GM wouldn't have allowed their components (specifically engines) to have been used had they been aware of the car's existence.
