Yup.

I wouldn't say ALL the music now is like that though. Some of the stuff that Phish, Widespread Panic, moe, Gov't Mule, etc. are putting out are top notch, have been for a while.

But he's right, we'll have to see what the new generation and the digital age comes up with as far as getting away from program music and if there's any way to make some $$ from their efforts.

I defy anyone to tell me of a radio station that has good , new music from morning to night these days.
Walsh is right.

Agreed

These guys come pretty close unless their format has changed. In an hour I'll usually hear a bunch of B side stuff from Bowie, The Firm, old Genesis etc. You never know what they're going to throw out there.

Every time I drive up the 95 corridor I can't wait until this station comes in. I usually have to be on 287 within 15 miles of the Tappan Zee.

107.1 The Peak - World Class Rock for NY's Backyard

Sure wish they were on iHeart radio.

The economic upheaval in the music biz is making it tough for new artists. A young family friend is tech savvy, knows marketing, and is a pretty talented musician. In the old days, he'd be pursuing a recording contract with a minor studio to get some money flowing and some exposure. He's doing the digital thing, but the money isn't there. The only way to make a living is to go on the road non-stop. He's got two small kids, so his dream and talent are on hold.

Napster and the follow-on free download sites slowly, but surely, killed the music industry's business model and are keeping real talent from developing.

So all you downloaders that justified your freebie music, still feel good about downloading 'free' music because nobody gets hurt?

Back when Napster was in full tilt, I downloaded a LOT of music. Not because I was a cheap SOB, but because I could find digital versions of obscure or long forgotten songs that could not be purchased on disc. Since I couldn't buy it, I had no guilt about what I was doing. In most cases the artist was dead, bands were defunct for decades, or the label no longer existed.

I bought all my other music (current at the time)....UNTIL....until I learned that it costs about 11 cents to make that $15.00-$20.00 CD. When CDs were new, I was ok paying a higher price but when digital music was the norm, there was no longer a reason to charge so much. Just like computers and flatscreen TVs. Once mass production is the norm and the market is flooded, I naturally expected prices to drop significantly. When that didn't happen, I took to copying.
Theiving greedy record companies have killed music...NOT the digital age. Cream will always rise to the top and a good musician will be heard. Sadly, once the record company gets involved, we'll ony hear what THEY want us to hear, not what the artist wants us to hear.

MILLIONS and MILLIONS of songs were made between 1966 and 1986 yet when I tune into a Classic Rock station I will hear the same freakin songs 10 times a day. Change stations and it's the same songs just two - 10 minutes behind the other station.

Music sucks because of record companies and although I DESPISE Clear Channel, they are a victim in a sense too. They can't afford to pay for the rights for all the great music out there that no one hears.

I haven't seen it discussed here much, but the show, Live From Daryl's House, is quite good, about 90 percent of the time, depending on the artist, and I never thought much of Daryl Hall, one way or another, but the guy is a huge talent.

This has been said since the drum machine and synthesizer became popular 30 years ago.

This is a good example of why you should not do drugs. His shit is burnt out. I am amazed he can still play.
