Default Question about Ticket in VA

A guy that works with me has a daughter that got ticket for failure to move over when passing a police officer on the side of the road in Prince George county.

Looks like max penalty could be $2500 and a year in jail??????

Anyone have experience on how this is being handled in PG County these days. No incident involved from whqt he says, no brush back etc.

Hey Tony:

Friend of mine's wife got one in Chesapeake. Cost her attorney fees and $1,000.00 fine. Seems like the local gendarme likes to send two cars to a stop. One takes care of the issue and the other waits to see if anyone stays in the near lane at over 25 mph. If so they chase that person down and issue the summons.

Having seen some of the footage where officers are stuck by assholes driving too fast and too close without paying attention I understand the reason for the move over/slow down to 25 mph if close. Due to traffic conditions it is sometimes not possible to yield that close lane but you can slow down.

I think the fine is excessive myself for a first offense but it has been set at this time.

Thanks Munch and Rich! I also move over if at all possible, always have even before the law, comes from driving a truck when I was younger and didn't want to head pop anyone with a mirror!

It seems to come down to the judge involved and his disposition at the time glad its not me or mine this time!
