Default Buying a new Jeep, are people really this stupid?

I belong to a dealership group so I can stay in touch with some old customers. Someone posted this deal, selling a new Gladiator at $30k over MSRP so they can roll $32k in negative equity in a one year old Jeep Overland. Essentially paying $125k for a $60k Gladiator.

When want trumps common sense.

Not really, if so they would be selling 81 million of them.

that buyer is just a student of monkenomics: If you can afford 84 month financing you aren't in debt.

When you show up at the 'park with your new overpaid jeep on trade

Yup and with a good credit score your payment would be $1,855.

I agree, but who’s to blame? The customer, dealership or bank?

Customer first...the "I want" is so strong in some people it becomes "I NEED" at any cost.

100% on the customer. Dealers and banks don’t force anyone to be that stupid.

Agree but someone at the bank should lose their job. This loan will go bad at some point.

Good point. Is the person approving this held accountable for default loans- I’d bet no. After all the bank is going to throw this into a bundle and sell it off.

It should be illegal. Then the rest of us wouldn't have to bail out the assholes and banks that do this shit. I'm all for doing away with dealerships and buying directly from the manufacturer. Keep the dealerships as "service" companies only, because people would still be able to take their vehicles where they want to go for service.

Tell people who waste money "easy come easy go" and if they'll never been without money they won't realize you're being sarcastic. Tell that to a poor person and you'll probably have a fight on your hands

What, exactly, should be illegal? Paying more for something than someone else thinks it’s worth? Do you really want the idiots in government passing laws about what we can pay or finance? You want car dealers to be outlawed? I want less government control, not more.

Was quite some time ago, but I've heard of car dealers wanting to roll credit card balances into new car loans.

If you think the dealer system is shitty, wait until you see how the manufacturers handle car retailing. It's not all that easy. There's a reason the manufacturers keep the independent dealer network and it ain't because they love their dealers....
