Default Body shop question

My wife took my daughter's Edge in to have the hood replaced due to some rust. I was out of town and come home to find the body shop didn't paint the inside of the hood - they left it the black EDP primer (the car is gloss black, so it's not ridiculously bad looking or anything).

Anybody ever heard of this? Seems like sheer laziness and cutting corners to me, but the quote just says "install and paint". Will the EDP primer last as a coating on the inside of an engine bay?

Thx

I've never seen that done before.

As far as I know, no paint shops paint the inside of a hood to body color unless you want to pay extra for it. They install the hood and then mask it off and shoot it.
It takes a lot of care to install a painted hood and not mark it up. That's how a classic car restoration shop would do it, for $$$$!

Black and black, so what's the big deal?

Because EDP primer is meant to protect a part during shipping - according to everything I've read, it doesn't provide the long term corrosion resistance of a color coated part.

Seriously - if you had a white car, you'd expect the body shop to give you back your car so when you opened the hood you see a matte black primed underside? Weird. I would expect it to match what I brought in.

Lazy and cutting corners, sounds like the winning phrase for the day.

Also, Rotor still providing comic relief after he's gone. *See Jay's location.

I would have complained and made them paint it.

Don't most manufacturers have a rust warranty?

I'm guessing they just dumped the rest of the paint left over from the pint it took to squirt you hood.

You didn't ask for it so you didn't get it.. now it will cost extra...

It will rust, and it is a cheapshit dodge to save the shop a buck. Make them pay.

Depends on what they quoted you and if they were specific about what they were going to paint. I would expect their price to include both sides.
