That would look WAY too crammed if you put a bball court in there. Leave the grass as it is!

How is the water table? You could be creating a serious drainage issue as basketball courts tend to be non-permeable.
Better get a fence door too as the ball will be constantly going over the fence, as in every ten seconds.

A family on my street built a basketball half-court as an extension on their house. It's twice as tall as their house and looks like crap. Of course, after 2-3 years use, the kid is off to college, but the basketball court is still there in all its ugliness.

I wouldn't really consider it petty. Like mentioned, it can mess up drainage in your yard when it rains, be an eyesore, and down the road, negatively impact the resale value of the home.

Unless you're a baller, $15K ain't petty. Have to agree with the others, I wouldn't go ahead with it.

well here is the update, talked it over and may get the 1" foam padding that has the basketball outline and put it in front of the house since we do have a basketball hoop and plenty of the street that he can use, so far so good

Put a roof over the entire thing and you'll have a great shaded side patio as was stated earlier.

Not saying this will happen but...

Wife wanted a gym - It sits
I wanted a pool table - It sits
I wanted a bar - It's never used
Paid to have a nice patio built - Use it 4 times a year (maybe)
Have a big screen TV upstairs - Watch TV in bed
Bought a grill with a built in fridge - It's empty

Someone should just take over my house and have a great time with all the things we never take time to enjoy.
