Default Hey Nox. Explain this to me.

I sent my Submariner to ABC Watchworks last year, and I'm not too thrilled with them. I didn't know they changed hands from the last several times I had them service my watch. Really wasn't blown away with the results this time.

Anyway, about 2 months ago, the watch started running fast, like 5 minutes every day fast. All of a sudden, in the last 3 or 4 days, it's back to keeping correct time. How does that happen?!?!

Also, who do you recommend I use now to get it serviced? Just send it to Rolex in New York?

I sent mine to New York. Best service imaginable. Now runs +/- 2 sec./day or better.

Sounds like maybe your watch suffered an impact or your mainspring needs to be lubricated. I have to ask what you do with your watch that it’s required service several times? I have a Submariner that I have owned for 25 years that I have only had serviced twice ever, and one of those times was because I dropped it and broke the balance staff. My rule of thumb is generally not to service watches that are working.

While I farm out many brands, generally, I only take my Rolex to RUSA. Since Beverly Hills is close by I usually just drop off my Rolex off at RUSA Beverly Hills. They charge a bit, but at least I know it’s getting done right using genuine Rolex parts.

The bezel fell off (again), and I lost the click spring that keeps the bezel from turning clockwise. The other reason I send it back is the bracelet gets worn. I like to have it come back with a brand new looking bracelet and a 2 year warranty. I'll send it to Rolex in the next week or two.

I have heard good things about RSC Beverly Hills. When my Yacht-Master had to go in for warranty work the AD preferred to send it to RSC New York over Dallas. The couple of times I have called New York they have treated me well.

One thing I would make sure to do is send it to the RSC yourself rather than an AD doing it. That way you know for sure where it is going.

my $85 Seiko keeps pretty good time. looks like it's about 0 sec fast right now (comparing to the clock on my iPhone display). I don't think it has a moving bezel.

After a couple years of daily wear, the alligator strap on my Omega broke. Bought a cheap strap as the Omega replacement was $800! I love the watch, but, I haven't worn a watch for at least 5 years. I don't see a reason now to put an Omega strap on it. My quartz Omega needs a new battery, but I don't see myself getting that changed anytime soon.

Recently ABC has suffered a poor reputation. I'm not 100% sure of the dynamics, but there was a split between the people at ABC and LA Watch Works (I'm not sure of the original companies name), but LA Watch Works has a very good reputation.

For independents, Bob and Phillip Ridley are probably the best independents when it comes to servicing, especially vintage pieces. There is also Rolliworks.

Check the Rolex forum for reviews. There are also some negative threads on ABC over there. Check it out and good luck.

So pics of said Rolex?

I have a white face Daytona that I haven't sent for service yet because, as Nox said, it still runs just fine.

You can clearly see that the bracelet already needs some TLC to look fresh again. Also, I bought this brand new in 2001, so it's now 20 years old.

I rarely ever take it off. I shower with it, play racquetball with it.... Only time I take it off is when I'm working on/around cars/engines where there is any level of risk to it. Oh yeah, also took it off when I painted my pool cage. Didn't want paint all over it.
