Default Speaking of HOA's...

Got an offer in on another place that i'll likely get. Bank and I are $5k away on price and we're working that out now. This will be my second house in this hood. My first one did well back in 2012.

Anyway I reached out to the HOA to make sure there are no surprises in what's owed in terms of back dues even though technically the Fannie Mae being the seller will be responsible for paying them. Reason why I did this is because previously the other treasurer for the HOA was cool and got the big picture and waived all fees for me as I was doing the neighborhood a service by renovating the property, helping with curb appeal and values, and getting a new homeowner in who would actually pay their annual dues..

Here's my response from the woman that is now currently the treasurer that my email was forwarded on to. Keep in mind this is my first ever contact with her. No prior emails or calls.

I'm just not responding or contacting her at all. I'll let it get dealtwith by the attorneys but at the same time I wont be in any rush to get this all expedited.

Fannie Mae will pay the prorated amount for the first month or two until I close then i'll pay for the remainder of the year at closing and then i'll get credited back eight months or so that's left when I sell. I'll get stuck with the transfer fee too but whatever..

Additionally is the property the member of the association or the individuals that own/occupy the residence? I may need to look at the covenants to see if I can opt out just to say FU to this chick.

I received your latest communication and it seemed a bit ambiguous. What was the intended message? Are you inviting me to run for Treasurer? It states that members of the HOA are legally bound to pay the assessment. I have not yet accepted the invitation to be Treasurer so I am not sure this applies to me.

true story:

years ago in Gaithersburg, MD there was a realtor who bought a house in the downtown 'historic' district and wanted to paint it some nice color, i'm thinking like a lemon yellow, nothing loud, it would have looked nice. but NOOOO...the commission in charge said it wasn't an approved color, only approved colors are approved. among the approved colors that were approved were Red, White, and Blue.

ok, challenge accepted.

she painted it red, white, and blue. in horizontal bands, each row of siding being a different color. of course it looked hideous, but it compiled with the letter of the law. it stayed like that for years until they relented and she finally got to paint it the color she wanted all along.
