I have a full head of voluptuous, thick hair that is the envy of all other men my age, and I would never conceal all that beauty with a hat or even a hood.

Never cared much for hats but as I got older did learn to appreciate them a bit.


Worked at construction for 45+ years (laborer and then pipefitter) and in most places a hard hat was required. Working in the fab shop for many years wore a welders cap, a hard hat was not required.

Ruining my boat and driving mostly top down with my Vettes and loosing scalp hair I went to a variety of baseball type caps.(sunburn hurts) Of course in our rather cold northern winters if outside for more than a few minutes I ***** up and put on a warm outdoor type hat. Having a full beard and a good hat my head does not radiate much heat.

I never, ever, ever felt like I had gotten any sun on my scalp, no burn or even tan. Now, I have gotten a little thinner at the crown of my head as I am starting to push 60, so like i said, if I am going to be in direct sunlight all day, I will wear a hat, but I still have never gotten a sunburn on my head.

It's thick but in the service so not long. One was on forehead where hat would have covered also. He was in early 50s when got 1st one cut out. BIL has thinner hair and not alot of it, 2 so far cut out, he also never wore a hat, does now.

Love headgear and always buy one at the tourist places or events. A few times they have turned into a favorite that last and gets more comfy over the years. If I had known, I would have bought extras of some of them. The 1998 G'burg event is one of them. I have several for CW reenacting - kepi, slouch, etc...
