Default Turbo question

I have a 2020 GMC Terrain Denali 2.0 turbo that recommends I use super gasoline....the other day wife filled it up with regular by mistake and it seemed to actually get better mpg.....so I'm wondering why do turbos recommend or require super and would using regular hurt anything

Your computer retarding the timing to the stone age will save you big problems if you use the wrong gas. You should get less power and mileage, you doing better go back and recheck your math.

I have the same engine in my Malibu, never used anything but regular gas, it runs great and is trouble free.

Odd that GM would designate premium, my 2.3 Ecoboost ops manual states that all Ford engines are designed to run trouble free on regular fuel.
I run mid grade as it does knock a bit on regular especially when it is very hot outside.

From what little I know from doing some research when I first bought a Vette and discussions on a forum, a good detergent gas is most important. The engine is designed for a certain grade of gasoline so why use a cheaper blend?

The final conclusion I came to: I didn't really save much money if I use a lower grade gasoline, so why bother.

The 1.5l turbo doesn't require premium.
