My last duty station was in Schweinfurt Germany and they had a not so secret, black masonic group/lodge on the Kaserne. We had that in Korea when I was there in my first unit. You are talking about the Prince Hall Masons (Prince Hall Affilitated or PHA). Yes, it truly is used for nepotism. That's why I waited to join a regular AF&AM lodge back here in the states.

Had an NCO that was the most qualified to go to a particular school for two weeks so he could make advancement. Instead the CSM and the 1SG who were both PHA gave it to a shit bag PHA who ended up getting UCMJ a few months later and chaptered out of the Army.

i can't get into why we don't recognize them as being legit Masons, but I do know they will put hands on their candidates as they go through the degrees. It's more of a hazing event from everything that has been described to me by people who have left and that shit won't fly with us...or me.

California Grand Lodge recognizes Prince Hall to be legit, non-clandestine etc. A number of years ago, I was invited to attend a Prince Hall meeting, I didn't go, but I'm sure the invite would still be recognized.

I'm a texas mason and if I remember right, we recognize them but they are still clandestine and we have no communication.
