Christmas is just another day. Very nice, very stress-free.

While my mother was still alive, all holidays were spent at my place since I have the largest house and property. She loved the holidays and loved having family together. When she died, there just seemed to be no reason to have a bunch of people in my house to cook for and cleanup after. Covid showed us who in the family would have hidden Anne Frank and who would have turned her in, so those relatives won't ever see the place again. Sister's boyfriend is a retarded liberal (is there any other kind?) so that takes care of that.

My wife and I have enjoyed the last couple holidays by ourselves. Quieter and less stressful. I have a five and a half pound prime rib for Christmas dinner. Heck, it might even run to Yorkshire pudding.

This exactly.
Do we miss some of the get togethers sure. But so we miss the travel and the drama…hell no.

Never flown Spirit. But, we are taking Southwest because their schedule and direct flights happens to fits our schedule and needs. Last time we flew Southwest, the plane was only a few years old, get to take 2) bags, courtesy drinks, free movies, etc. extra legroom, wasn't bad at all. But, it could turn into a shit show in a split second.

When mom was still with us, and living in our childhood home, we had 25+ family there every Christmas morning, then off to church, and then back there for a great meal,,, those are some of my favorite memories.

When she hit her 80s, I took over, as one sister and brother still lived here, both are now deceased, and my other sister and other brother lived in NJ, but we still had about 20 family and guests at my place.

Over time it dwindled, as more family moved away, so we did more travelling to FL West Coast to be with wifey's family.

For the last two years I like the option of staying home, just me and the wifey and the two dogs, I 'may' go to a gathering on Christmas Eve Day, but am content at home.

My sister in PA, moved from NJ, has about 30 family at her home this year, we considered it, but Ringo could not go, as my nephew has a badarse 75-pound GSD, would not end well for Ringo.

I miss the HUGE Family Christmas Memories, but hope it will be restarted when our girls get married and have a few kiddies, as I will disown them all t if they do not show up every Christmas at our place--I am currently giving them slack until they start families.

Unfortunately, people cannot bring their dogs when visiting us either. They think it would be great with so many acres to roam and explore, but my dogs aren't wired for that. It would not be pretty.

I have flown Southwest A LOT, never a problem, almost always on schedule.

Back in my corporate life, about 20 years ago, I was leaving DC to return home.
Had a 6:00 PM SW flight out of BWI, bad weather all around, our flight in was rerouted, that sucked as it look like I would not get back home until Saturday afternoon.
The weather cleared around 6:00 PM, but still needed a plane.
Well, BWI is a hub for SW, they had a plane on the tarmac that was done for the day, they pulled it up to the terminal, it was in the air by 7:00 PM.
I was in my driveway by 10:00 PM, SW stepped up and made my day.

Wife and I miss the big family gatherings on Christmas at my parents home also....it's something how things change when the parents die. Wife and I tried to keep it going after they passed but it seemed it was too much trouble for my sisters to come down for Christmas dinner....it was only 40 miles or less for them both.
Anyway wife and I continued with our daughter and her husband and son and his GF for a decade or so.....then we sold our larger home and moved to the beach....other things happened so now it's up north NJ to daughters.....she's trying to keep things going but I so much love wifes cooking better ! lol
I suppose in the coming years I might not want to do the driving and then we'll be here alone....like this New Years Eve.....will be only 2nd time alone ....like I said, things change.

New Year's Eve is always an easy one, have a nice dinner with the wife, then off to the garage and driveway, me and the neighbor have plenty of fine pilsners, work on solving the world's problems, and watch the neighborhood idiot amateur pyrotechs blow off a few digits--the entertainment is free.

It took my dog a month to recover from her stay at the vet. This is a clinic we know well and my mom and a couple friends work, or worked, in. I know they did not mistreat her, but it was obviously traumatizing for some reason.

Heading to Denver Christmas morning, got to go see the one and only granddaughter. It will be worth it to see her.

Be careful…you will trigger all the SWA haters here who only fly first class and refer to SWA as flying Greyhounds.

While dating the wifey, I would fly SWA from home, FLL, to TPA.
Very efficient, and I paid about $60 for round trip.
They have been very, very good to me!!
