Commas kick my ass. I used to just sprinkle them around but now I think it looks better just leaving them out entirely.

H-D couldn't give them away last year. They can't keep them on the floor this year.
But here's the catch. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with H-D. People are buying literally any motorcycle they can find at absolutely stupid dollars. H-D has a slight advantage in that they can roll people into those asinine HDFS loans. People don't even care. The Ducati 1198 and 1098 that I posted in a thread recently both sold within a single day of being listed... each was listed at 25% over NADA book. I rarely have bikes in stock for more than a week, even at absolutely insane prices when compared to "normal". Used bikes in many cases are selling for more than the original MSRP. In short, H-D dealers are selling because some of them actually have something to sell. My shop is in the middle of a pack of dealers. The factory Yamaha/KTM/Suzuki dealer has 4, yes 4 bikes as of yesterday. The largest Honda dealer in the area has 5 bikes, all of which are the crap nobody actually wants. I just watched HD dealers fighting at an auction to buy HDs at over RETAIL book prices. This market is absolutely insane. |

I replaced batteries on both bikes this afternoon. One was 5 years old the other 7. The parts bro tried selling me lithium batteries. His pitch? “They’re a lot lighter!” Yeah. Lighter. On an 800 LB, < 100 HP motorcycle weight savings is a thing.
They did have the new Revival on the floor. (Different dealership from yesterday) Starts at $29k. |

I wonder what a low miles 2005 Yamaha Road Star midnight silverado would be worth these days?

Rather than starting another thread, I'm going to piggyback on this one.
@Giraffe and other "Harley Guys" I have a question. As is known, I own a powersports dealership. We're still among the smaller shops. It isn't a shady joint. Decent showroom, good equipment, nice bikes (no barrel rolled garbage). We have a very good local reputation that keeps growing. I can sell sportbikes without trying. Metric cruisers sell as fast as I get them. I sell more Sportsters than you can imagine. But other H-D bikes ... not so much. Under $10k H-D bikes are good. Dynas go quickly, specifically Street Bob and Wide Glide. 06-07-08 full size bikes (Ultra, Electra Glide Classic, Heritage, etc) go fairly quickly. But... newer Harleys I simply cannot freaking sell. Price simply doesn't matter. As an example, I have 2 right now. I have a 2014 Ultra Limited and a 2017 Road King. Both are immaculate, clean bikes. The Road King is loaded with goodies including the "hard candy" paint with a whopping 6,800 miles on it. Both are priced literally thousands of dollars cheaper than damn near identical used bikes at the H-D dealer a mile away and yet they sit here while H-D rolls them out the door. My question is this: I offer in most cases way better financing, lower down payments, and lower priced bikes. Why do higher dollar H-D buyers walk into a H-D dealer and pay what they have to know is a premium price? What (if anything) would make you walk into my smaller shop and buy one from me instead? |

You know what I've found about H-D owners? They're loyal bastards. You get to chatting with a guy and he'll almost always tell you about the great deal he got at "****nuts Harley-Davidson over on 10th street. They get all my business" Full disclosure; I've got a bit of this mentality myself. I've been doing business with a dealer for 15+ years that's 40 miles from my home when I have one 9 miles away. How about advertising? When I walk into a H-D dealership I expect to see one thing; H-D. There won't be a Ducati here and a Kawasaki over there. In other words, they don't have to spend any money advertising a heavy cruiser - but maybe you do? (or are) Does the market know you have these bikes? Another thing about the current H-D owner/buyer; They don't know shit about motorcycles. Harley is as much about ****in' fashion these days as it is about riding. Need proof? Look at the Road King with 6,700 miles on it. Someone purchased that scooter, probably had a couple close calls on the road and decided this motorcycling thing ain't for them. How does this tie into your inability to move those bikes? Perhaps they don't trust anyone *other* than a H-D dealership because they think there is some magic pixie dust required to Harley ownership when it comes to these heavy cruisers. All this is married to cost. Take the '17 Road King you have for sale. The current market for that bike is probably $17k -$18k or thereabouts. That's a lot of scratch for what's essentially a toy and if you don't realize there isn't anything special about a Road King you're gonna want to purchase that from a 'trusted' dealer. The jump from $10k to $17k is a big one on a toy. These are just some things that immediately come to mind right or wrong. Maybe when your customers comes in to kick tires ask them how they heard about your place. If you can get a sense as to who your reaching and how, perhaps you can make some adjustments to expand that reach. What the **** do I know. I weld pipe. |

Just a thought. If I paid more than I normally would for a bike, but knew I could still turn a decent profit, I'd do that, especially if I knew I'd have a steady source of those bikes coming to me. |
