I would like to say that I'm using Sophos, however, a few weeks ago it started throwing up a nag screen. It is asking to me to give it permissions, but it's not giving the instructions to do so. Basically, it wants me to upgrade to the paid product.

Real product, yes. Use it? HELL NO!

There is nothing in it that your Mac needs.

I get a lot of ads & web page hijacks for Mac Keeper. Googling says it's a legit product, backed up by an "aggressive" marketing scheme.

My college student daughter’s two year old Macbook was also hi-jacked by the insidious “MacKeeper” malware. I took it to a local computer repair place (downtown Plymouth, MI) and was well aware of problem invader. He installed a malware eliminator app (forgot the name of it but its logo is a stylized, corved “M”); and , it found a couple of other parasites. No charge! He said that the malware program license expires in a year and my choice whether whether to keep it. He probably gets a commission if I re-up after a year? He did not scan my credit card). Either way, the computer runs like brand new again.

Sounds like this one. An Apple support tech recommended it to me. My system was very sluggish and this took care of it along with getting rid of the notorious MacKeeper.

It’s so cute when Apple customers first encounter malware.

In a couple of weeks, Apple is expected to announce a new 16" MacBook Pro. Supposedly it will have the same footprint as the current 15" version. I too miss my 17" MBP. I suppose I could dig it out if I really needed it.
