Conditions in niger are deteriorating, the US leaders in state dept and military should know this, they chose to lie and deceive instead of taking immediate actions to ensure no troops are harmed, or killed.
We have LOTS of equipment there which would be taken by russians, and then shared with china and iran.

False Reports to Congress:
The White House has provided false reports to Congress about troop counts in Niger. On December 7, 2023, President Biden reported to Speaker Johnson that “approximately 648 military personnel” remain in Niger following post-coup drawdowns. (top, right) This number remains closer to 1,100 DoD-affiliated persons between AB101 & AB201.
Assistant Secretary of Defense of International Security Affairs, Celeste Wallander (bottom, right) statement to Congress: “There is actually quite a mixed message. We are following up and seeking clarification,” Wallander said. “They have declared this SOFA … to be non-operational, [but] they have assured us that American military forces are protected, and they will take no action that would endanger them.”

Waiting for @ptindall to explain our pressing interest in having bases in Niger. What's the reason we are there, and how would simply withdrawing from the whole country impact the US? Would the vaunted Niger blue water navy be sailing to invade NYC? I mean, that actually might be an improvement, but that's not the point here.

I'd rather pull that equipment, and those troops out of Niger and put them on our southern border.
