Drove an EV yesterday
So the wife has been kicking around wanting to get an EV to scoot around town. We have solar panels on the house so our electric bill would be minimally impacted, well until she decided what she liked. I made the mistake of having Autotrader open looking at some vehicles when she saw the GMC Hummer. We had a 2008 H2 which was a cool truck.
Anyway one thing led to another and I went to the dealer for a test drive yesterday. Pretty impressive to say the least. It is probably almost as quick off the line as the Hellcat. You can feel the front point to the sky when you roll into a little bit. Tooling down the road at 70 felt like you weren't even moving. No engine noise, wind noise or nothing. Don't really like the price on them currently. Will have to wait and see if they start to come down with the glut of them on the lots. Interior was also nicely laid out. I liked the four removable panels on the roof, I think the dogs would like it as well. |

You need to bring GrandSportC3 into the conversation. He's an expert on EV's.

Start a separate savings account for the battery replacement. About $400 a month should do it.

EV’s are a joke. And the fools who think that they are saving the planet by driving one should not be allowed to share our oxygen.

You know for a vehicle weighing in at 9000LBS, it pulls a 3.4 sec 0-60 in WTF mode. Rolling down the road at 50, touch the accelerator and it jumps to over 70 in a moment.
No I won't drag race it, maybe the Durango Hellcat. Had fun with it on the way back from the dealer yesterday. Some poor Mustang is probably at the dealer tomorrow trading it in because he got spanked hard by an SUV. I'm by no means a big EV person. I was impressed with the Hummer, how it drove, handled, accelerated and overall comfort with it. |

There is truth to this. Depending on the vehicle, battery can go up to $10k. When mine quit last September, it was $9k. Fortunately I was 2000 miles short of a warranty expiration. I felt the best thing to do was bail and traded in. No Hybrid this time. |

The Hummer EV is a cool looking vehicle but it's only a "SHOW" truck. If you actually look at the payload and towing capacity, it's a joke of a truck..
It 100% LOOKS COOL but AS A TRUCK, it's almost worthless. 1300 lbs payload on a big ass truck like that. GM did not spend any time trying to make that truck efficient in any way, so they just slapped a gigantic, heavy batttery back underneath, bringing the truck to well over 9000 lbs. Again, if you look for SHOW, the Hummer EV is your truck but other than that, it's a heavy ass car that looks like a cool truck. Due to it's large battery, it takes a long time to charge it to a high charge even though it charges are a very fast speed. Again, when it comes to the coolness factor, the Hummer EV ranks pretty high but from a functional perspective it doesn't. Anyone who would mostly charge on the road, would probably pay more for charging than their gas truck would cost them to fill up because of the huge battery. There are reasons to go gas and there are reasons to go electric. One of the advantages of electric is that you can charge at night while you are sleeping. With the Hummer EV, if you drive a lot and you need to recharge over 50% of the battery over night, it will take OVER 10 hours to charge only half of the battery. For example, on a Cybertruck, you can charge 100% of charge in 10 hours. On the Hummer EV it's 50%. |

90,000 pre-orders
Key Stats How many Hummer EV did GMC sell in 2023? GMC sold 65 Hummer EV in 2023. (From Jan - Nov 2023) How many Hummer EV did GMC sell in Q2 2023? GMC sold 63 Hummer EV in Q2 2023. How many Hummer EV did GMC sell in 2022? GMC sold 854 Hummer EV in 2022. With these sales numbers, parts may be hard to get in a few years. And a battery that has a 3-5 year life? But it does look better than the Cyberclunk |
