Did you get a Long Haul award? As you know it ended here in DFW. Next time you're around these parts let us know, would be cool to get a group together.

I made it to El Paso on Thursday night and yesterday Friz and I went for a Bomber Run-El Paso Chapter thru the New Mexico mountains.

It was a great route, quiet, no traffic, great weather and plenty of twisties, but we took it easy.

Timberon, NM

At 9,100 National Solar Observatory

At The Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation Casino & Resort Lake.

Lake Tramp with her stamp. The Tramp Stamp as Friz called it.

As I left Friz's house this dust, wind, hail and rain storm hit me. The news said it was never seen before. Thats a story for me to tell once I reach 70 years of age. "El Paso? Oh yeah; check this out........."

Friz, I had a great time thanks for taking the time to drive and show me around. I got 2 1/2 hours of footage. I will edit it and make a 10-15 minute video clip once I get home and get all these things together.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. I am a little concerned about a group of mostly men traveling with their own herd of sheep, goats and camels though.

Many Hot Rodders were wondering, we asked and there was a family day scheduled at the city hall. City Hall was the Rally Point for that day's route.
I was laughing at the rooster, it reminded me of Joe Urine Stream.

I had a great time Pete. Thanks for taking the time to stop and spend a day carving up the twisties.

Great pics....identical to the ones I took. Although I didn't get Lake Tramp.

Going back up to Timberon on Wednesday for a few days with the RV. The mountains got a good soaking rain today, so maybe the fire danger will get down a bit.

Actually, I'll tell you I'm leaving and then sneak in anyway to see what you're up to.

Yes, I do one road trip a year.

Now, I'm going to put this in the open. Me and Friz discussed a plan on driving up to Utah/Wyoming/Montana and meet up with Sweet. This is doable and I'm in. Its up to the dog, TMT, the cat and perhaps the owl, Beavis, and anyone that would like to join the crew.

These are the final numbers:

Total Miles driven: 8,434
Average Fuel Price: $3.78
Gallons Used: 400.5
Average MPG: 20.9 MPG
Moving Time: 137:16
Moving Average: 61 MPH
Overall Average: 49 MPH
Max Speed: 148 MPH

What did I learn?

1. A Corvette with 100 pounds of gear (tools, luggage, water and junk) on the cargo area and coilovers are not good for cruising.

2. If you take a Vette with coilovers, don't forget the coilover tool. It would have been great to raise it an inch.

3. Buying the $4.98 case of the 16.9 oz bottled water in Walmart is a great-great idea.

4. Tinting all the windows prior this trip was also a great idea.

5. The spare tire and tool gave me a great peace-of-mind.

6. Satellite Radio is just the only way to go.

7. Rain-X rocks!

8. The Dewitts radiator is worth every dollar of the $500 it cost me.

9. The Hella horns worked/s great!

10. If I do another HRPT run, I will do what 80% of the people do, travel 10 hours ahead.

11. Michigan is a cold *ucking state.

12. The Tail of the Dragon was a great ride. If you have never done it, do it before you die.

13. The NCM looks the same.

14. The National Arches Park, Ruby's Fall, Wild Turkey and Mohamed Ali tours rocked!

15. El Paso is not that bad.

16. Drove thru 19 states and California has the most expensive gasoline. I think Arkansas had the cheapest.

17. Arizona was the hottest state, 110°F yesterday from outside of Tucson and about 80 miles west of Phoenix.

Comparing to the nation's map size, for a local run that was one long run.
