I left NY in 1995 with my business. It reduced my personal tax rate significantly.

I was stuck paying 8% income tax, and 5% sales tax in Maryland.....

plus prop taxes were going up to 2500/year, and are NOW up to 4500/year on that house, I look this shit up on .gov sites once in a while, just to keep up on things.....

Florida, has no income tax, 7% sales tax, and 650/year prop taxes, OF WHICH 250 bux is trash and recycle pickup once a week.....


True I had to shut down my business, and lost a LOT of money in other business 'ventures'....but it was easy starting up again, made good bux again....

I moved to NH. No Income tax or sales tax and my business tax was reasonable. Property taxes are higher than other places but still less than in NY.

I was able to save a great deal of the money I would have spent on taxes and now I have a decent retirement account that should allow me to have a very nice retirement in 3-5 more years. I will move to Florida full time then and avoid the NH dividend/Interest taxes


If I had stayed in NY taxes and high costs would have not allowed me to have the lifestyle I have up here or the savings.

I pay $6300 in property & school taxes for a 2300 sq ft, 3.5 acre spread and the sales tax is 8.75%.
My previous house, up the street, is up to $9000 in property tax from $4200 when I first built it. 2300 sq feet as well.

My Fathers house on LI was on 1 Acre of land, 2500 SQFt with an in ground pool the taxes today are close to 15K a year.

That is insane....I have a 2300/sqft home on 1/2 acre and pay ~$1100/yr in taxes.

That's about what it is here too. They do make you pay property taxes on your vehicles each year, a few hundred for three vehicles. I think it comes to about $1700/year for everything, and that includes trash/sewer. Sales taxes are about 7%, but we do have an income tax but it's pretty insignificant compared to the IRS hit we take every year.

Ours should be similar on the new spread. Last year we only paid on the dirt and it was 400bux.
