Factory pinstripes being applied to 1965 Pontiacs.
Factory pinstripes being applied to 1965 Pontiacs. This was done in the post-prep area of the assembly plant because it was too time consuming to be done on a moving assembly line. The 1965 GTO received a single pinstripe, the 1965 2+2 received a dual pinstripe. What happened when a 1965 had to be repainted at a dealership? In July 1965, Pontiac issued pre-cut masking tape templates that a painter could apply, paint between the lines, then they removed the tape.

Pinstripes on the LT-1 were done using a stencil. On this car you can see the small perforations.

I think things as far as N.C.R.S paint judging standard's have changed, but a Corvette would loose all the paint points, if it was pinstriped.
