Thumbs up We Just Cut The Cord

Got fiber optic hooked up to the house yesterday. 5x faster than cable upload/download speeds. Just removed all the cable boxes and seemingly miles of cords and took them to the local Xfinity/Comcast office. No more cable. Better service. Faster WiFi. Less than half what we were paying.

Cliffs: **** off Xfinity/Comcast

We live in a 200 lot development. We each paid about $1000 to have fiber laid in the neighborhood. Now on a local fiber provider and have not looked back at Spectrum/Comcast/ATT/etc....

I don't ever even check the speed anymore. It's just fast.

We have it (I gave in) as do most of the neighbors. We seem to have more down time than when we were on Comcast but maybe it's still an issue getting everything online.

What's the alternative? You still use AOL and dialup for web access?

IQ Fiber. They've been laying fiber on the island for several months now. We had to give them permission to lay it in our small 80 home development but we didn't pay anything for the install, either in the development or to the house.

Really? Ours only goes down with power, and 30 seconds later I'm back up on generator.

I see them working at the junctions between the various subdivisions, I'm just wondering if that work is causing the brief disruptions,

Yes. When they were doing the installation of the neighborhood we were one of the first that got a drop to home. It would periodically go dark as they were installing a new hub.

Our neighborhood was developed right around 2000, and it was the early test-bed for fiber for our local ISP.
I was involved in it from day 1.

We built our house there 11 years ago, and we've had fiber since then.
In the last 11 years, I can count on one hand how many times we've had issues that were not my own fault.

the ISP neglected the shit out of the rest of town and rural customers.

We went from paying $90/mo for fiber (actually only seeing ~50mbps) to having two competitors on our street.
They halved the price overnight and bumped speeds to 250mbps at the same time, to try to stop the bleeding.

Be patient, fiber is coming

We just went from paying over $300/mo with 80 Mbps to $75/mo with 500 Mbps.

500mbps for $55
750mbps for $75
1Gbps for $95

that is what a company I do a lot of work for charges.
Wish they were closer.
