So add more expense to running the HAVC? There is a better less expensive way to address all issues. I surely can't be the only one that has run into this with all the years of experience around here.

If you’re too cheap to actually take care of an asset you should sell. You’re in way over your head….assuming you actually own the house in question.

I agree. I think the property is in the Philippines.

My God why do some people make things more dramatic than it should be.
If one is going to be away from the house in the summer just leave the AC on even at 75-80 degrees and it will keep the humidity down.

If one is concerned about the air handler producing too much condensation and potentially backing up there is a cut off switch attached to a float sensor.
And you can install redundancy as far as you want to go with moisture sensors that will shut down the system in the event of a problem.

In the winter you can leave the heat on at a level that keeps the house from freezing if that’s of concern to you.

Should you be away for long extended periods, say 6 months or a year…it would be wise to have a property manager or a minimum a friend/neighbor to check in on the property occasionally.

Turning off other equipment like the water heater and turning off the main water supply is as straightforward as possible.

One was a dilapidated POS if someone was there full time. Cant imagine what it’d look like after being abandoned for a year.

Raccoons were probably having races in the POS lap pool

The original ignored question was if my ten buck fix keeps the humidity under 30% why would you run the HAVC?

I haven't posted it yet. I am curious if the professionals can come up with it. It has been used for centuries.

Don’t care.
Centuries ago people travelled by horseback. But most have embraced modern technology.
Sure you could keep a bunch of pails of rice or use the modern version called DampRid to keep humidity and moisture down in a vacant home. Or some other ancient method. Most, including myself would just use the air conditioning.

I admit to using the DampRid in the camper when it sat in storage. But once I installed hookups at my house I used the air conditioning.
So nice to enter a camper (or home or any building) after it’s been sitting for a spell and it’s cool and fresh.

You're wasting your time comparing Floriduh to Texas desert.

In our home, in SE FL, the air is always set around 78, as turning it off may only save you a little compared to the big bill!!

Back in New Hampshire, there is a fair amount of humidity during the spring summer and fall. We had a dehumidifier in the basement and it collected a few gallons a week. Mom was still using one up until she passed 10 years ago.

She would water the plants with it all
