Default These automobiles were built for the 1946 model year

Late 1945 Charlestown, West Virginia: corner of Samuel St and Liberty Street. The building is still standing. These automobiles were built for the 1946 model year, with 1942 body designs, and they were often converted military staff cars, which American makers were allowed to build on a limited basis while the war was still going on. Most makes that were built were warmed over 1942 models for 1946, 1947 and 1948.

If auto production had ceased during the war, you might be excited to see new vehicles being delivered locally, a sign that things were getting back to normal. That's just a guess, not sure what's happening here.

That would be my guess as well. If no one in town had seen a new car in 4 years, I'm not surprised a few dozen felt it was worth their time to show up to the dealer to see new ones being unloaded. I know I would.

I bought two with fingerprints and crumbs and everything else when everyone has to sit in it. At least you know you'll get the car washed.

I bought one, a 69 Mustang red convertible, 4 speed, 351 V8 with a Ram Air shaker hood. Replaced my wife's 66 red Mustang and she drove it like it was stolen.
Got a great deal, was assigned to a Reserve unit upon my release from the Army and a fellow in the unit, his family owned a Ford dealership and told me about the car that a guy backed out of after ordering it. Sitting on the dealership floor all shiny and hot looking, so I ended up having 2 red Mustang convertibles sitting in the driveway. Wish I had one of them today.
