Their music hasn't changed in 50 years. That song sounds like 75% of their music. They were good when you were in your 20's loaded, after that the same chords and same riffs after decades gets old.

When a composer in 2022 looks at something from the early 80s and gets detailed it is interesting.
Just because they are heavy metal, does not mean they dont always know what they composed back then.. Some of the interviews of musicians and writers back then let you know they werent what their image on stage, and magazines viewed them as. |

Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are the high point in the history of Black Sabbath. I grew up listening to them and learned to play guitar by playing along with their earlier records. I knew them inside out. But the last two or three with ozzy were train wrecks with few good and no great songs on them. Seeing their '77 tour put me off them completly, what a terrible idea to have somebody as good as a young Van halen open for them. People were leaving during the Sabbath show. They were miserable as players and people, and it showed.
After they were rid of Qz, they did a alot of work tryng to regroup. They fought their addicitions. For a time they left all the places that allowed them to fed their vices and tried a number of other singers. During that time they were in a city I lived in and a shaved Iommi showed up in the record store I worked at. he looked terrible and a step away from death's door. They were far off the beaten track. A band I had just joined lost their practice space and a year later found out it was for their singer auditions. They had a number od people claiming to be the singers (and some still claim it today) and that turned into a nightmare too. But hen Heaven and Hell came out I opened it at the store and played it, waiting for what would be the next great disappointment. I was floored at how good an album it was. ALL the band members playing as good as I knew they could, and RJD's addition allowed them to do things they never could before. While I can't tell you in musical terms like the video, Iommi played styles and scales he never touched before. I wondered if it was actually him playing. The show I saw on Sep 5, 1980 removed all doubt. Over the years I had an on-going set of random meetings with RJD and spoke with him a number of times. Last time I spoke to the whole band they expressed how much they preferred RJD in all ways over Oz. They had expected to write a number of great albums last time they got together. Much was lost in the interium due to the horrible witch Sharon. Whay kind of god takes somebody like RJD and leaves Oz alive? |

Ozzy mainly sang/followed the lead guitar part. Dio actually added strong vocals to the songs.

here's one; poor girl doesn't know what she's about to get in to.
Recorded in 1969; released in 1970... War Pigs is considered Sabbaths best. A modern video was made for the song, really gives perspective: Here's the modern video without the reaction part. Burt Wards drums are killer: |

Some of the best ever Sabbath lyrics.
Sing me a song, you're a singer Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil The Devil is never a maker The less that you give, you're a taker So, it's on and on and on It's Heaven and Hell Oh, well, yeah The lover of life's not a sinner The ending is just a beginnin' The closer you get to the meaning The sooner you'll know that you're dreaming So, it's on and on and on Oh, it's on and on and on It goes on and on and on Heaven and Hell, I can tell Fool, fool Well, if it seems to be real, it's illusion For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life Love can be seen as the answer But nobody bleeds for the dancer And it's on and on, on and on and on And on and on and on and on and on... They say that life's a carousel Spinning fast, you gotta ride it well The world is full of Kings and Queens Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams It's Heaven and Hell, oh well And they'll tell you black is really white The moon is just the sun at night And when you walk in golden halls You get to keep the gold that falls It's Heaven and Hell, oh no Fool, fool You've got to bleed for the dancer Fool, fool Look for the answer Fool, fool, fool |
