Smile Thanks DAB

Shout out to DAB for coming to the rescue on our wood working project question.

Plan to acquire the drill bits and extenders we discussed. This should be a fun project.

What could possibly go wrong?!

Hint: Bondo can be used to fill any gaps. I use it to patch rotted door frame bottoms. And window frames.

Using bondo to repair rotted wood is not my kind of club.

Either replace it with new or PVC or wrap it in sheet metal to protect the new wood.

So many options these days.

With my hubs being accident prone, losing a finger (or two) is on the list of possibilities of "what could go wrong".

Agree, have done that before, bondo works pretty good actually. Have used that trick on home flips. Easy to sand down and paint = good as new

This projects will require a bit more work. Working with 6X6 boards.

Pictures to come.

I read that the penis begins to lose a centimeter or so over a certain amount time.

Apparently I'm actually 147 years old.

So neighbor has one of these. They do not want it, needs about 7 boards replaced, of course the boards needing replaced are the massive 6X6 boards that were put below ground and as a consequence rotted. SO......

We can purchase replacement boards from the manufacturer ($$$$ plus shipping) OR we can fabricate our own.

Grands will love it.

Doug is my go to professional woodworking specialist of impeccable integrity, I had commissioned him to do 3 separate start from scratch jobs, a table top fruit bowl, a flying wooden stingray (the fish), and a custom made inert explosive ordnance top for a WWII era 90MM brass shell, my favorite.

ah.

so where do you need to drill the holes? of the boards, sides?

and what goes into the holes (watch out for Knooger)?

hypothetically, if you wanted to attach a 2" diameter pipe to a 6x6 end, I'd drill a 2-1/8 or 2-1/4 hole, seal the end of the pipe (some blue tape would work), mix up some Bondo (with fiberglass, good stuff), put that into the hole, insert the pipe, brace it until the Bondo sets (30 min should do nicely), and the pipe will be held securely.

if this is for rotten little kids, sand down the lumber and the edges. 80 grit should work well.

All of the boards on the ground have at least a foot of decay at the bottom. All slots for steps and round holes for the bars will need to be drilled. The original wood was redwood but we will be rebuilding with pressure treated or cedar. Still debating on wood selection.

We will make sure this is on top of the ground. PO had buried them at least a foot deep in pea gravel, which accelerated the wood rot.

Knooger loves strange holes.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot. Buy new pressure treated 6x6 boards. Replace old boards. Done. Not rocket science.

Just use bondo. What's the worst that could happen?
