WHO GETS THE REWARD?
PARKER COUNTY
The 27-year-old deputy who was shot while investigating an illegal deer blind set up in Parker County on Monday evening has been identified as Jarrett Turner. Turner is a 2-year veteran of the sheriff’s office and was shot in the foot. He was sent to the 4700 block of Cattlebaron Road just before 5:30 p.m. Monday on a criminal trespassing call. Sheriff Larry Fowler said the property owner called the sheriff’s office to report the deer blind. In Turner’s body camera footage, the deputy is seen walking behind a man in plain clothes. It’s dark and as they approach the blind, the deputy shines his flashlight on it. As they get closer, two shots are heard and Turner stumbles forward. He and the other man run back the way they came as Turner calls for an ambulance. Turner had been hit in the foot and ended up in the hospital. He has since been released. Spokeswoman Deputy Danie Huffman said the suspect hasn’t been found yet. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest. Updated November 15, 2018 12:13 PM PARKER COUNTY The Parker County sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the foot while investigating an illegal deer blind set up in rural Parker County was injured by his own malfunctioning backup weapon, Sheriff Larry Fowler said Thursday. The incident happened at about 5:30 p.m. Monday in the 4700 block of Cattlebaron Road. The deputy, identified Thursday as Jarrett Turner, was investigating the blind when his backup weapon discharged on its own, Fowler said. “It was a second weapon on his person and that damn thing went off without any warning, and that is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard,” he said. “I’m not happy about this whole thing, but I’m most unhappy about whoever made that damn gun.” Fowler said Fort Worth police found the slug that struck Turner Thursday morning. He said investigators are still looking for a person seen trespassing on the property, dressed in black. Fowler said the weapon will be inspected and tested by the Texas Department of Public Safety. It was the guns fault. |
