Default [GEEK] Wired keyboard isn't working

CLIFFS: It doesn't work.

I have a Dell Optiplex 7440 AIO and it won't recognize the Dell wired keyboard. I am able to use a Wired Apple Keyboard, any other wired keyboard (even with PS2-USB adapter), and any kind of wireless keyboard with the USB RF reciever.

If I use the Dell wired KB, I can't even boot to the BIOS. I did use the mac keyboard and checked all settings which are correct. When I plugged in the Dell KB, it wasn't even recognized in the BIOS or in Device manager when I booted into Windows 10. Voltage to each of the 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports is correct. I've also tried 6 different Dell Wired KBs and they failed, but worked in every other device I plugged them into.

I've updated the BIOS, all drivers, did Win Updates, too. Nothing worked. I rolled back the BIOS once then one further than that and still no luck.

I did find a win update that was causing problems similar back in Feb 2018, but I don't have that particular KBXXXXXX showing or hidden in updates. One suggestion on a dell forum was to reset the CMOS battery and BIOS, but that did nothing.

Any ideas? I'm not allowed to use the big ****ing hammer option, Dell teir 1 support says it's because all of my keyboards are out of warranty and they fought me about elevating the issue to engineer support.

Something is physically wrong with the USB cable most likely, or the keyboard controller is completely FUBAR. Just get a different USB keyboard and forget it.

And if you're getting a new keyboard get one that's back-lit. I have a couple of the Corsair back-lit keyboards and like them just fine.

Sorry, I'm not really able to help.

Standard debugging techniques, first plug keyboard into a different computer to test for functionality. If works, then your port is busted, if not, your keyboard is busted.

Replace whatever is busted.

Keyboards are sort of a consumable item, they wear out.

I've never tried eating one. I usually stick to shoe leather. You know, if you collect Ketchup packets you can make a soup.

As i stated, I tried 6 different keyboards that all worked on different machines of the same make and model.

Dell is going to have to send a new motherboard most likely.

I must admit, I never thought of that.

Should have listened to your mother if you play with it to much you're going to break it.

Have you tried the Dell wired keyboard with any other PC and, if so, what was the result?

Did you try moving the OS drive from an identical model to the problem machine? Might indicate whether it's a true hardware problem, or specific to that Win installation. I did that occasionally when I used to do I.T. support, before I got this job of sitting around all day reading forums, listening to my wife, enjoying a drink or 5, etc.

Read your OP, it states pretty much the opposite.

Do you have a keyboard cover to prevent bodily fluids, I mean, beer, from spilling onto the keyboard?
